They may have told you this in class, but:

Get over to Kona and dive with the Mantas!!!!! This is a night dive in about 30' - with lots of light!

I almost forgot to share this tip. Sunburn can be a serious problem while on surface intervals. As I've aged, my hair has continued to get thinner and thinner. I now face the danger of a sunburned head. For years, I'd put on a cap between dives, but I'd usually delay and not get it on soon enough from time to time which resulted in a painful scalp. Then there were those beach dives with long surface swims, I almost always got a nasty burn. There is a solution offered by our very own Dee. Now I wear a Dee rag when I dive. I put it on before starting my day of diving and remove it when I'm finished for the day. I don't have to remember to put it on between dives because it's already there. That long surface swim? No problem, my Dee rag is preventing sunburn. This is one tip I wish I'd learned years before I did.

Walter,
reductio ad absurdum
'reduction to absurdity'; proving a proposition by showing that its opposite is absurd; disproving a proposition by deducing from it an absurd conclusion

Don't be too impressed, my degrees are in music, but I sure know how to look up stuff!!

Neil

CheeseWhiz, be warned wearing Dee rags becomes expected. I don't wear them on night dives as I don't need the protection at night. I've had DM's complain that they missed my Dee rag. Check out her web site, the selection is constantly changing.

Wow...sounds like the fire ants we have here are mild to the ones in Texas! (hey...I'm from the mountains of maryland...never saw one before!) Don't think I want to mess with those "attack frenzied" ones down south!!

Another tip...have a full stocked "save a dive" kit..including LOTS of the 014 o-rings. They are the ones that blow from your tank valve. And know how to change them. If the o-ring blows when you turn on your tank, and you don't have a backup, your dive is ruined.

Yeah, my sister found out about fire ants the hard way: she chased a relative's dog around the yard and happened to end up on a huge ant hill. She learned a valuable lesson that day.
