I've ordered from LP several times and wouldn't hesitate to order anything from them. :)
With that said, I do prefer to give my business to my LDS and do when ever the price difference isn't too shocking.

I've dealt with them for > 3 years without major issues. Their bizrate rating is accurate.

Their religion makes them shut down by Friday 2pm so avoid orders by Friday afternoon or it won't ship until Monday.

They have increasing competition price wise from big catalog companies like Divers Direct, Scuba.com etc., and their business dealings is, in my opinion, a cut above these folks for inventory and promptness.

I would order 3 sizes of a product, not knowing which fit me, and return the other two without issue. My former buddy ordered an entire outfit, doubles through wet suit, and later returned the wet suit for an upgrade to a dry suit.

I've had similar snafus with other companies, usually when an item is not in stock but intransit from the manufacturer, expected 'any day now' so the customer in limbo.

What I would have done is had I not received the item on the first shot, cancel the order, or ask for something 'Mel' actually had in hand to ship.

I think the long poster did have a bad experience, but its not unique among mail order companies, including Amazon. Its not that the product did not ship, it did not ship as rapidly as expected or promised.

Now, if a product did not ship,or was lost in transit, that's a big problem. In the first case that's fraud and punishable by US law. Make sure you buy with a credit card that has purchase protection {Amex or MBNA gives that free with its card} and the item is insured, so if its lost, you needn't be left holding the bill for an item not received. I've so far not been affected by this problem.

ask them about their holliday schedule. They take off weeks at a time. I've canceled several orders because of this. The main thing is to order on the phone, not online.

Ordered some goods on Monday night get a call from the couriers on Thursday saying they have it :) I live in Australia
U couldn't ask for better delivery service than that :D

there are great I love them, You can order there catalog if you would feel safer that way but they practice what they preach.:D

YOU WISH!

*cough* me too.

Does anyone have christmas sales, REALLY? I always thought stores did a 40% markup!

I found last years flyer they mailed to my house.
Apeks ATX50 was $275.00 , AT20 was $150.00. You might save the shipping.

I've had numerous dealings wit LP and have been happy with them every time, i wouldn't hesitate to use them again :)

has this problem... I know this is an older thread that has had way to many posts but here is my $.02. I also ride motorcycles and have owned both Harley's and Japanese bikes and spent lots of money customizing both.

Harley aftermarket accessory manufacturer's often put the same restrictions on their dealers that SCUBA manuf's do with minimum prices, orders, etc. It definitely drives up the prices to the consumers and puts the dealers in a bad place.

I certainly sympathize with the plight of the LDS whose hands are bound by the manufacturers requirements. They are not the bad guys in this equation. Sure there are some shops where the staff are not friendly, but there are lots of shops that have great owners and staff that go above and beyond, and I am sure it huts all of these guys when we take our dollars and spend it with a big company that isn;t going to do anythign else for us.

BUT--- we all have limited dollars and we all want ot make sure we get the best bang for our buck. The key to solving this issue is not to get on the case of the LDS or LP but to get on the case of the manufacturers who say one thing to the LDS owners and do another thing with LP. I can't fault either group for trying to make a buck.

In the meantime I will continue to get all my little items from my LDS as well as training etc. I will also buy all my expensive non repair intensive (mask, fins etc) from LP. Computers, regs, BC's will depend on the situation, the price, and whether my LDS is even a dealer for that brand.

I will now get off my soapbox....
