I prefer the primary-donate setup vs having an octo tucked off somewhere. I tried going full long-hose with my regs, but found that to be cumbersome for recreational diving, and I went back to the under-the-arm config. For my secondary, on the necklace, I went with an even shorter hose and use a 90° swivel at the regulator. With the secondary on the shorter hose, I found the under-arm routing on the primary to be easier to deal with.
That said, BDR had the rental diverite regs set up in a traditional recreational config, for obvious reasons. You should set them up however works best for you. They are great breathing regs however you run them.
