Hi Kev,

Had a blast diving with you guys on Tuesday! Thanks again for a great day of diving... it really made my holidays!

Too bad we didn't have your camera along to photograph that pod of narwhals off the Fingers...

;)

Kev couldn't dive yesterday morning so I worked in his place. Although, since I was just diving and holding the flag it was more fun than work.

On the boat were:
Joyce - Joystershell
Mike - Mega Mikey
Jim - Puffer Fish
Mindy - Aqugirl2U
Kelly
Ron

Seas were less than 2'. Water temp was 73 on the first dive & 75 on the second. The only time the boat really rocked was when a boat waked us.

There was a pretty fast moving north current.

Dive one we did on Briny Breezes. There was still quite a bit of particulate in the water so viz was only about 40'. As usual there were tons of fish on the site. Several of the divers saw their first Sharp Tailed Eel. Since I was working I didn't take my camera with me. Jim, Mindy & Kelly were taking pictures, so maybe they will share some shots with us.

Dive two started on the north end of Gulf Stream, and then jumped over to Black Condo. Kelly got several shots of a turtle cruising the top of the reef. There was a large Yellow Jack hanging out getting cleaned by a group of Neon Gobies. Mindy spent quite a bit of time on a cooperative Green Moray.

I do have a topside shot of the group on the boat thanks to Kelly.

Hey it was an awesome day, wasn't it? Here are the particulars:

Seas started out 2-4 and ended up 2-3, mostly 2. The water started out 75 degrees and about 50' to 60 foot vis on the Castor (dive one) and ended up 73 and about 40' vis on Gazebo (dive four) with a pronounced change occurring on the Tony (dive three) from warm blue to cold green.
The big news of the trip is that the last side of the Castor has succumbed and toppled into the sand. This happened over Christmas, and though I may have mentioned it already to some, this was the first dive that I had the trusty and robusty Friends of Scubakev and REEF PHOTO& VIDEO Memorial Camera with me to document it.

Basically, what once looked like this:

now looks like this:

and so the updated Castorgram now looks like this:

I think it's gonna stay like this for a while, as there is nothing left dangling or creaking, although we might see some of the pieces move around a bit if there's a storm.

Other highlights included this gigantic claw, which either is an American lobster claw flung from a passing yacht's dinner deck, or the biggest crab claw I've ever seen. I included my big left paw as a reference.

Also on the Tony was the Dark Overlord. Note the evil crown hood.

This BACF, or very large coronet fish hung around at super close range for a while on Gazebo.

This was a loggerhead who was just waking up as we passed by. It seemed interested in the activity going on outside of it's hole and I thought it was going to hang out for a bit, however, things didn't end that well. It lost its footing on the sponge and was startled and shot across the reef clipping the top off of a barrel sponge in the process.

Sweet pics, Kev!

Sweet pics, Kev!
Hey thanks!

I just realized that I have forgotten to post the report for Saturday afternoon though. Here is some more:

Seas were calm, but the water was a little green. I thought that it was a little chilly, but I didn't have my regular machine with me so I couldn't check the temperature. Other folks were reporting that the temperature was between 73 and 75. There was a moderate north current. Here are some pics.

I found one of these! I think it's some kind of salp. It was about a foot long and seemed to be fairly firm and dense.

Kev! These are truly wonderful pics. Thanks :)

I love the composition of this one!!!
