Huh? I didn't know that. I don't recall ever seeing that as an option on the colectivo sign board. Is it something you just have to know to request?

Well, they call it Special Services - so not real clear - but that is the private service - so about $8 to Casa Mexicana

Well, the private shuttle is basically a standard taxi fare - and they are assuming that by "private" it's one person - but a group of say 4 or more could probably negotiate a private shuttle for a little less than the listed per person rate for the private - not 100% sure about that - but it is an option

Yeah I thought that was weird too, but I think I’m gonna try it next time.

4) Your luggage is out of sight in the back, mixed in with luggage from 10 other people.
5) You can't see if your luggage is (accidentally) unloaded at the stops before yours.

I get out at every stop and watch what gets unloaded.

I've never found the shuttle to be an issue. It seems simple to me. They are cheaper than the cab fare back from centro, too. At least they were for me this time. 88 pesos vs. what will be 102 on Sunday.

After last night, I say bring on Uber. I came back from a night dive and the driver made me pay him 140 when I only owed 110. He insisted that the price was because I was not in el centro. "No, aqui es el centro; el centro es de Melgar hasta 65, al menos, y estamos en 40." And that's only zone 1. According to him, el centro only extends to 30th after 9 pm. Maybe it was my own fault because I didn't have exact change and I was trying to get him to give me 100 back for 210. Usually spanish works when they try to screw you.

Actually - there is a surcharge after 9pm - that was true - it used to be 10 pesos - not sure if it increased - I don't use taxi's

Maybe he didn't screw me, then. It's hard to tell from the pictures of the card on the sticky post, but I thought that the surcharge was only from midnight to 6 am. It was just weird that he described it as in el centro shrinks after a certain time.

That works ok as long as you get in last and can easily get out, although having to be "on guard" at each stop is not as nice as relaxing and enjoying the ride directly to the hotel.

It might earn you a few dirty looks if you have to ask a couple of people to get out so you can get out, just so you can watch the unloading and get back in.
