Just think about how many cab drivers each bus would put out of business.

What next? Replace all the 6-pacs with cattle boats?

You have the cab drivers driving the buses. They might actually make more money than sitting around waiting on a fare.

But there's no way that ALL the cab drivers would do better or even as well as they do now, whatever that is, if there were a competing bus line. Would you pay as much for a bus ride as a cab ride? The fight now is over the issue of water taxis; the cab drivers are of course very much against it.

So, what are we talking about? 3? 4? 500 busses?

Are your numbers three or four buses. Maximum of 500 buses? Did you mean 300, 400 or 500 buses?

I have no idea. You have to determine a schedule. Know the passenger loads. What would a typical bus...maybe a smaller bus, carry? 20 people?

The notion that only a taxi system can work is silly. You can have taxis for on-demand transportation that goes places the buses do not. Add in buses for high demand times going downtown, etc.

Establish a van or bus system (like on the mainland) for travel along the hotel zone and beach clubs and maybe even to the east side.

The reality may be that there are too many taxis for the island.

A bus line that would put taxi drivers out of work is probably not going to happen. The reality is that it's their country and their system, and it's up to them to decide the way they want to run it. Whether we can imagine a transit system that we think would work better is irrelevant.

Folks in here complain about the "taxi mafia", but they are lightweights. Try buying a truck here in the US to compete against the Teamsters and see where that gets you. :D

They are still a mafia......lol. They will break out their tire irons when they need to!

That "it is their country" argument also works when they decide to destroy a reef for a cruise ship pier.
