If maxing out on gas capacity is so important, then why not go for the real Big Kahuna; the Mother of all Tanks; the Holy Grail, itself: the FX-149? It's only a couple inches longer, ~4lbs heavier (empty), and only costs ~$11 more ... but can hold 14.5% more gas.

Its a painted Faber. :shakehead

Next dum question, please...

CompuDude:
You definitely want galvanized. PST or Worthington. Fabers are good tanks, but they're HEAVY, and well, as others have noted, paint scratches.

The new FX series Fabers are not much heavier than Wothington. I bought my FX-72s because of the size fit my needs for doubles. The white finish on tank had nothing to with it. Anti-scratch wasn't a consideration for me, but I don't plan on shore diving them. I got a great deal from Joel Silverstein at Tech Diving Limited.

What kind of drugs do you take ? ;)

Is there a good place to purchase a HP130 used? They seem to be a hot commodity. I dive with a yoke 1st stage, do I need to switch over to a din? I hope not.

Billy

There are very few in the used inventory, as they are hot and they last forever. Very few people buy a 130 and later decide "hey, I want less gas and an inferior tank... I better roll this anointed 130 and get me one of them AL80's..."

I got my first PST about 3 years ago off of eBay for $299. I got my second PST about two years ago from eBay for about $265... since then PST has kacked and Worthington rolled in, copied their dimensions and specs and is selling them for about $389. You really won't find them for much less.

They all have the screw-in yoke ("doughnut") so you can dive (j)yoke or DIN.

True. You didn't say it would be cheap!

Its only a matter of time until all drysuit divers in SoCal stop diving with wet hands and move up to the DC gloves. Its the best sub $140 dive investment you can make in safety, comfort and enjoyment.

Blue. Its the new black!

I love coming back to the boat, hearing people complain about the water temp, then saying something like "Yeah, it might have been a little cool down there, but it's hard to tell" as I unscrew the blue smurf gloves and pull out warm, dry, happy hands. 8-)

I guess the "very few" would be people like Pasley or Wrinkles (I just discovered that one). These are sippers that can dive a 40 cf "half pint" with someone using a 130 cf "annointed special" and still come up with half a tank when Mr./Ms. 130 reaches 500 psi! :11:

That said, I look forward to getting a 130 anointed someday after I get a drysuit. ;)

I have to DeepDevilAdvocate this:
How would you feel, at say... 98fsw... diving with your sipper-buddy (who's porting the teeny-tiny-oh-so-cute tank,) if your reg fails and the two of you are now huffing and puffing on the flea tank, maybe struggling against other problems too, sucking the stuffing outta that little tank so fast you can see the SPG needle falling?

It's all fun and games until someone's OOA. Then no one complains about carrying too much air.

I dive constantly. I don't waste energy worrying about potential problems.

Thinking about being able to bring two people up from the deepest part of my dive profile, both breathing on my tank and having enough time to solve problems and ascend at a safe rate... this is NOT worrying.
This is dive planning.

Part of my deep-dive plan is the Hallowed 130.

It's just a better tank.

(and it's worth every penny...There! Still on topic.)

You know I'm with you on all of that. I just couldn't help tossing in a comment about Pasley and Wrinkles and how low their air consumption is. ;)

A flea tank is good for the flea circus :D

Rock on!
