I was surfing the web today and I found this locality forum - city-data.com and found my way into their South Florida section. I found LOTS of negative threads and posts, which sort of reminded me of some posts that have been in this forum lately (like in http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/florida-conch-divers/266478-never-been-florida.html and http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/florida-conch-divers/263816-moving-south-florida.html)

The typical gripes were crime :eek:hbrother:, traffic (please come to DC for a week and then complain about traffic), no one speaks English, and the one that annoyed me the most...that South Florida is "boring and there is nothing to do." :shocked2: What?!?

So...being my little outspoken self :angel2: I just had to join and voice my opinion. I figured some of you would enjoy the show

It seems to be turning into a NYC is better than South Florida thing so far (which really wasn't the point, but whatever...)

Boring...really?? - Fort Lauderdale area - Florida (FL) - Broward County - City-Data Forum

Come to Long island and travel the L.I. expressway here or even the parkways on a daily basis you will not be complaining about traffic in south florida not to mention the snow.(oh i forgot to mention insanely high property and state income taxes) I personally am counting the days till i can move to sunny florida :shakehead:where there is much more to do simply do to the fact that there is nice weather all year roundwhich makes for a better quality of life (IMHO):D

New York and New Jersey beats south florida hands down as a place to live, please stay there. Your former state mates are down here and miserable. They are constantly telling us how much better it is up there.

The best news down here is that we are showing "negative growth"

I'm with you, Princess. I was born and raised in DC, have lived all over the states and elsewhere, and I saw Florida first in 1965. I think the complainers are spoiled elitists who wish they could have the state and its charms to themselves.

Here it is, January. I am in shirtsleeves and will dive 3-4 times this week without traveling anywhere, like I do most weeks. And, you can do this where else?

As I posted in another thread here just the other day...if it's so miserable here, why do they stay?

What can I say. I work with the public and people will gripe about ANYTHING. :dork2:

People in the US have no conception of "Real Traffic" Try Cairo or Alexandria Egypt or Jakarta Indonesia or Bangkok Thailand. Now those places have Traffic

There are a lot of people who are only happy when they have something to gripe about. The times I have traveled to South Florida, I haven't had any problems. I think I am done with Miami but as far as the rest of the area, I actually love it down there. I may find myself moving there one of these days, who knows.
