Hey Onohunter :)

http://www.gap-software.com/ is a free deco planner that I've played with - I'm not mix certified, or into deep dives, but I like learning and studying as it sounds like you do - I have dove with both Jo and Scuba and Dreams (once each - so far) and based on what little I saw both are incredible divers with a love/passion for sharing the technical side of diving. If I had the desire to go deep now I'd contact one of them -

By the way if you get over to Maui drop me a line and maybe we can do a shore dive or two together -

Aloha, Tim

No worries man, nobody wants to hate on you, we just don't want you to end up a statistic. There is no substitute for training and practice. The great tech divers that invented the sport didn't get taught by anyone, but the learning curve was pretty steep back then. Nowadays training is relatively cheap compared to going it alone and learning by trial and error. It's difficult to get mix fills, etc without proof of the training to show you can use it. Please be careful and use your head, Darwin strikes down bold divers at a pretty good rate.

Hey Tim... Any 200ft shore dives around there?

:)

Actually I think there are a few, but I have NO desire to go deep till helium is involved ... I'm the guy that gets narc'd at 80fsw ;) I am really "into" 40ft dives that are nice and long :D

thanks again for the positive posts. I've got a weeks worth of studying from it and alot of positive motivation to further my education.
Maui does have some awesome deep dives. Molokini has even yielded a masked angel withing rec limits!
thanks kidspot for the info. When the ferry starts I'll be over.
I've got a ton of dives at the sea tiger. its a fun dive and deep enouph for an occasional pelagic guest. Just checked the thread. always wondered what the guys in the black inflatable were doing. they hit the other south shore wreck sites often.
we free dive it for "treasure", flash lights, computers. We dive for the weight belts (over a dozen at least found). tourists forget some cool things.

There's also Dive Tek Hawaii on the Big Island, for excellent deep diving & Trimix Training. Complete DIR rigs and gear set-ups for rent too. . .

Here is a link to V-Planner

It used to be free, it isn't anymore. It's worth the price. I've used it.
I've been to 204' on air. I won't do it again. That was the dive that helped me decide to get the training to dive Mix.

I think some are being a little harsh, but they're just looking out for you and whoever else reads this.
180' on air in clear warm water is a LOT different than 180' in a cold dark lake!!

Yeah . . . Air Diving at 190' in benign tropical conditions in Chuuk is still preferable than 190' on the cold dark pinnacles & sea mounts off SoCal. But in either case, you're never immune to the Dark Narc'. I'd rather now use Helium mix for anything over 80' involving a Wreck Penetration or a heavy workload to perform. . .

I agree!!
Since I've gotten the training, I use Helium for anything over 100'. What a difference!!

I would tend to agree as well, we use helium below 100 ft. and whenever the task loading is high. Works great.
