It would be also possible to complete the PADI courses instead, but I am not sure if completing 4 specialties (incl. deep and navigation) would get me an AOWD at PADI.

AOW in PADI is equivalent to Advanced Adventurer in SSI. The question should be whether AOW in SSI will give you AA, as that is the AOW the dive op's are expecting to meet their requirement for advanced dives. Of course if they just read the card, no worries, if the dive op is looking for the requirements...
