"Spare Air" - Experience in its use

I already posted the stats and consumption estimates on the largest available Spare Air model (model range HERE)

The two available sizes listed on the Spare Air website are 3 CF and 1.7 CF

With an sort of elevates breathing rate, you've got a matter of seconds, not minutes, of air.

Again, there are two sizes, I agree the 3 CF is not good for anything, but what about the 6 CF model?

Just can't imagine ending a dive where I needed to use one thinking "Whew - thank god I didn't have more than 6cf of air!"



You can buy a 13cf (or even a 19cf or 30cf) and a pony reg for about what a 3cf Spare Air costs.

They sell a manifold to double 'em up. You can get them configured for Trimix and even get 'em O2 cleaned.

there has to be a limit to redundancy planning. Pony over Spare Air is logical and sensible.

Contingency planning for 6 failed regs is just plain pessimism,

If that happened, then someone's trying to kill you.... or you racked up some seriously bad karma in your last life. LOL

we will have to agree to disagree. I see the spare air as a foolhardy solution and can give a false sense of security.

The situation you described is sooo not likely to happen by the way. Proper planning, good equipment and don't dive with morons. It's really pretty simple and not nearly as complicated as the Internet divers suggest.

If you are that sloppy of a diver, please, PLEASE find something else to do with your time. You'll risk the lives of those who are recovering your body.
