OK fess up how many of us have "called in sick" to go Diving? I don't have a 9-5 job so I can take as much time off as I like (well in theory) but I did blow off an appointment with a client to go diving. Confession is good for the soul. Has your diving habit caused you to do something else a little on the wrong side?

I've never called in sick to go diving but I work all of my hours in 4 days and I go diving almost every Friday. My employer knows this.

I don't have to skip work to dive.
Living In RI I can go straight from work and be at any of a number of RI shore sites for a late afternoon or evening dive with in minutes.
Tonight I am diving with a student to finish their openwater dives.
Monday night I am doing a drift dive and night dive at fort adams with police and firemen that are in my AOW class. Tuesday will be a fun dive for anyone up for the challenge. probably do one dive just before sunset and one just after. So who needs to bail on work?

Oh yeah, I have called in for a personal "mental health" i.e. diving day. Sometimes you just gotta unless you have really flexible hours or you don't have to get home and take care of children or something after work. I also am on-call a lot so have to take the chances when you get them....even if it means calling off work.

Sort of..... come in early, get the TPS reports (office space) done by 9:00 and leave without asking permission.

I still mark off the hours on my vacation sheet, but I get 20 vacation days a year which I would never have used up in the traditional manner (submitting for approval a week in advance).

My boss is literally 500+ miles away so as long as the TPS/daily reports get done, no one bothers me about attendance.

Planning on doing it again next Tuesday to go wreck diving on Lake Erie. If the vacation days run out, I get 10 sick days and 2 personal days.

Sure corporate America slowly destroys your soul, but it has great benifits and pay!

I'd have to call-in for a week to have enough time to drive to anyplace worth diving (better than a borrow pit).

I edited the "called in sick" to be in quotes. I wouldn't want to imply that anyone was lying, cheating or stealing from their employer. OK now that I have that cleared up; off to raid the supply closet.

I'm an instructor ( Cad/Cam software,) and I have to spend a lot of time on the road. The payback is that when I'm not scheduled to teach a class they leave me alone and I can dive! ( That is called a demo prep week at my company.)
