Night dive cert might be worthwhile. Do it early in the trip, because the night dive at SCC is easy and fun, and doing your first one with an instructor might be a good idea. But you don't need certs in everything. Just follow your divemaster on the boat dives and you will get the hang of drift dives, and leave the camera on the boat until you are very comfortable, maybe until the next trip. SCC is a great place to do your first dive trip, especially solo. Have a great trip!

Thanks! I am going for master scuba diver so I need 3 more certs to do that, but the ones I'm choosing are ones that are practical. Since I'm nervous about the idea of night diving, I want to get the cert. Do you know if you have to buy your own lights to take the course? Should I get a dive knife? I have all other equipment except a wetsuit.

I would also love to take the underwater video course because I need to learn how to take better video/photos: I dove in the Caribbean earlier this year as part of a cruise (did two drift dives in St. Lucia) and it was not easy to take non blurry photos. Not sure if the class is worth it, though.

You should own your own lights regardless!

I carry two on every dive.

unlvcrjchick - you can rent lights at SCC . No knife! Consider a 3mm wetsuit.

I have been to Scuba Club three times. The first two trips were with a group, and the last trip I went solo. On my last trip I was grouped with the same divers and dive master for the whole week. During the course of the week, I made several good friends, and met many more great people. I found that when I was with a group, the group stuck together, and tended to keep to themselves. :depressed:

For beverages and other needs, I would choose the Mega Store over the Chedraui. Much better selection, and I found the prices better.

Now I'm wondering if I should get a flash accessory for my sealife mini camera: while it's a great camera, I want my photos to have color to them (my pics from my Caribbean dives earlier this year all look blue and green). Any suggestions? Everything I have found for a flash accessory was more than double the price of the camera itself!

I always carry a dive light - day or night. Carry multiple lights at night.
Have never owned a dive knife - carry shears instead.

Strobes are expensive but they don't go out of style every year like cameras. If you think you will want to move up the digital camera chain in the future, good strobes are an excellent investment.

I have a sealife camera and stobe Works
Pretty good. It was at the price Point I wanted to Invest in an UW camera set up. They have great customer service too. I have a older 10mp and it's still going strong

For my money, my sealife strobe is the most important part of my package. Not that I have a big package. Wait.. that didn't sound right....

Anyway, I am thinking of replacing the sealife camera with a canon, but Ill keep the sealife strobe.
