I'm curious...

After reading about jetskiers using dive floats as a slalom course, wouldn’t a safety sausage be an even bigger enticement? With that in mind, has anyone ever seen a safety sausage with a dive flag on the end? Seems like it would add an extra measure of safety, since the dive flag is a little more recognized than the normal sausage, and would add just that much more visability. It could roll up just like a sausage (fold the flag over a few times then roll the whole thing up), w/o being noticeably larger.

I think I recall seing one with a dive flat printed on the end, but the jetski would have to be awful close to see it.

Too bad there wasn't a kind of net that would spring out of the water if a jetskier got to close to stop them in there tracks. When the jetskier flew over his jetski a few times, we wouldn't have to worry about them anymore!!! LOL

I read an idea elsewhere on this board r.e. a large amount of wire, threaded through corks to keep it floating in the area around the dive flag. Maybe SpiderWire? Attached with a light fishing line so that it would break away from the float if it happened to get tangled around a boat prop?

I'd never do such a thing, just think it. If you think this is bad, you should hear the ideas I censor.

Sporasub makes some football shaped floats that have about a 8" dive flag attached. Nice and streamlined and tows nicely.

I use the inflatable one as an alternative to the more traditional dive flag floats, but have never tried sending it up from depth. You would have to be very careful on how full you fill it since it doesn't have an overpressure valve.

There are some sausages with nice big "Diver Below" lettering. Hopefully jet skiers can read, even if they don't recognize a dive flag.

In Florida, divers are required to carry a dive flag that would measure 14" by 18" when shore diving, and when drift diving. At times, that is not big enough. The little flags some sausages have would do nothing for safety; the sausage itself would do more than the little flag. Want something that would work? Get a 6' safety sausage, or a 50lb lift bag and that would be as good, if not better than the required flag. Me, I'm thinking about carrying a 3' x 4' flag, but I'll need a bigger float (LOL).

If that doesn't work, maybe one that says, "submerged rocks"? Actually, some of my friends might say that's not too far from the truth...

I'd like to build a dive float with a auto-tracking water cannon with a 100 foot range.

Sort of like the Invisible Fence for dogs, only this would be for boaters and jet skis.

I think your looking for:
Carter personal float 7 1/2' tall, with 75lbs of lift & an Optional reflective dive flag. I seen it online @ Leisurepro.com

This is indeed a serious problem...... I've been buzzed by boats several times. I think they are curious to see what the "floating flag" is all about.

I use Ocean Reef's sausage which has a (sortof) flag at the top, but I think the OP is optimistic to believe that a boater that would skim an odd-looking float would pay much attention to an odd-looking float with an unfamiliar flag.
