I forget, which dump valve location is DIR again? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each location?

I bought my suit used, but when it quits I want to have it's replacement all planned out. Though, at the rate it is going now, that might be never. I bought it 2 years ago, it was born in Oct. 2000, over 75 dives by me on it, and not a single problem.

Direct from the website:
The standard position for the automatic dump (which is standard on the Nova drysuit) is well up on the left upper arm facing slightly forward. This offers the best compromise between ease of dumping air and also being easily reached with the right hand should a loss of buoyancy from your BCD mean you need to close the valve to allow air to be retained within the drysuit. For those divers who prefer to maintain a horizontal position at all times during a dive (or have to due to confines of space) then a valve position a little further down the arm (11cm) and further round to the outside of the arm (6cm) is preferred. This change aids air dumping when horizontal but can hinder valve operation if the suit is worn with thicker undersuits and certain kit configurations. It also makes donning one piece webbing harnesses easier. Here we call this the "DIR" position as it is favoured by those divers, but it is by no means restricted to that community. Just be aware that if you need to shut the dump down quickly then its access is reduced. There is no extra cost to switch to this position. This is an option for a Nova drysuit. Should only be ordered if a Nova (membrane) type drysuit is also ordered.

I've run into this problem with my current suit (which I believe has the valve in the standard position) and my xDeep Stealth harness. something to consider...

I put my left arm in first.

Actually, donning isn't a problem, but doffing can be especially when wearing dry gloves.

Same. I think I need to loosen up my shoulder straps when wearing thicker undergarments. But the alternate valve position might help too. I'm also considering putting one of these in on one side:

A QR buckle would be my choice over having the dump hard to reach, there are some other types of QR that I think may work better, the ones where you put the metal piece through a slot but I don’t remember who makes them.

SumpUK makes one like you describe. That one was just an example I could find fast.
