L-D,

That is why Cape Cod was invented! When I was a student across the river from you we would look longingly at the Charles River, but no one who ever jumped in got out (this was in the late 60's)!

And, now you have a good excuse to go diving!

Yeah -- I'm a "warm weather wuss"...I hate it when it's this hot. I lived in Atlanta for a short time a few years ago and thought I was going to die from HHH (hazy, hot and humid) disease during the summer....

Actually, I work in Cambridge....and there's no way, even with the inner harbor and Charles River in better condition these days, that I would ever go diving in either. Still too many three headed fish swiming around ;-)

Temps are supposed to hit 100 today. Just praying that the cold front that's supposed to come through this weekend makes an early appearance....

I have a night dive scheduled for tomorrow night -- looking forward to colling off in the 60+ degree waters north of Boston.

Well, us warm weather divers have but one question...

"What's a dry suit???"

For us, it's sumpthin' we ain't swum in yet...

:p

Thank you for the information so far, and yes, once in a while a man can "hit the right spot" ;)

The "further" is travel storage:

I know that they make regulator specific bags, but having said that, I just spent $$$ on regs, and would PREFER to not have to spend another $50 on a reg bag (I know, I know, what's $50 but. . ."

Do you all have "regulator" bags, or do you have an old softsided briefcase or bag that you have lined with towels or foam or whatever to transport your regs? (I am talking airline carry-on travel here.)

I don't travel for diving much at all -- for local diving I don't see the need for a reg bag -- just TLC

When I went to Bermuda recently, I used the laptop briefcase I have -- the padded computer compartment worked great for protecting the reg (although obviously you've got to be careful about getting seawater in the bag!)

I own 7 sets of regs for various people in my family as well as various applications for me. They all have their own bags which I bough from Diver's Outlet (AKA Diver's Direct) for about $20 each. They are all padded, and my favorite ones say Armor on them. They have a zippered pocket on the outside where I insist my family keep their C-Cards as well as any dive computers. When they have their regs in hand, they have the other "required" stuff as well. While our C-Cards have been checked only occasionally by dive boats, none of the local springs will let us even bring dive gear into the park without them!

BTW, I understand that Florida has more springs than the entire continental US combined. More fossils too...

Large-Diver,

When I was in Cambridge, the only fish we saw in the Charles were called "Charles River Whitefish". They had a very diaphanous skin, no internal organs, no mouth, a wide orifice at the tail, and tended to appear mainly on Saturday and Sunday mornings. They varied in length from 6 to 8 inches. My guess is that, even in the cleaned up Charles, they still appear. I do not think they are on the endangered species list....

Starfish,

I almost always transport my reg in my carry-on gear. That bag is a wheeled carry-on and contains my reg, my camera and strobes, toiletries and and a change of clothes. The latter two items are in case the airline loses my luggage and for padding.

I do not have a reg bag, but they definitely look neat!
