The time to "upgrade" is when you can't get parts, it's broken beyond reasonable repair, or you just want another reg, and can afford it.

I mainly use a first from 2010, and seconds I like, mostly older, and not a match to the first. A lot of dives are on vintage, or at least old, regs I've picked up and repaired, '80's and earlier. If I was younger, I might try some of the new regs, or just go to Poseidon, as the old '60's model I have is still better than anything new I've tried.
i have a number of Poseidon P300 + Cyclone 3000, did you ever own K75? they were a "brick on wheels" the same analogy applies here to the P300, its an ancient reg. again from the 60's, just after double hose regs, its very simple to service, its cheap to service, its not high performing but reliable underwater and under ice, would you agree ?

For O2 regs, I'll buy a new for my CCR, 20' deco bottle when the existing ones stop meeting my specs.

For non-O2 regs, I'll service them. All non-O2 regs are SP MK10/G250 combos that I absolutely love. @rsingler - I can't thank you enough for your wisdom and the class/workshop. I used my rebuilt regs to bail out during my MOD3 course - flawless reg performance at depth! I knew they worked well, but using one on a deep drill is different than using one in a quarry.

An older thread, but adding my 2 cents. My original Scuba Pro regs were purchased around 1982 and I used them for about 20 years. My present Scuba Pro regs are still in very good condition and there are no plans for upgrades so far. I try to keep them serviced every few years and generally take pretty good care of them between trips.
