Hi Guys;

I've just completed all of the theory side of the Padi OW.. and im just wondering is it true that if you've not completed the qualifying dives you have to re-do the whole course? :idk:
I was told by a friend, as im doing it when im at uni, When they go to qualify im at home approximately 210 miles away... I don't think i will be able to make it back up...

Is this true? Thanks guys!!

I believe that if you've completed the pool dives and theory (I'm talking PADI) that you will get a "Confined Water" card which is valid for a year i.e. if you complete the Open Water dives within a year you can get your OW certification.

Sorry, I just noticed which forum this was in (I responded from the front page of the forum). Best to get advice from a professional rather than from a newbie like me.

If you did eLearning, the following might apply. It's in the PADI Americas version of the Instructor Manual.
eRecords verify requirements met and expire within one year.
(presumably that's one year from the time you completed the academic requirements)
I don't know about your side of the pond.

From the PADI Instructor Manual :

Referral

Referral is the process of providing training documentation
to another PADI Instructor when a student diver is part-way
through a course and wants to finish the course at another
location.
Referrals expire 12 months from the date of the last training
segment.

Exception: Adventures in Diving program and Specialty Diver courses
have no time limit.

So, YES is the answer to your question. You will have a year after your classroom and confined water to finish your open water dives.

If you're away when your class is doing their checkouts, you can still do your checkouts at home or near your Uni at another time. You'll mostly likely have to pay extra for that, but I'd think it would be worth it to not have to take the course again.
