Agung this morning, Mimpi Resort Tulamben, I will not bore you all with the photos taken with my tiny Gopro 13. Love the shots above. View attachment 870538
Mimpi resort bungalow in Tulamben is very nice, isn’t?

We will also be staying in Mimpi resort bungalow In Menjangan with hot spring water piped into its private jacuzzi.

One other thought is that you’re doing three dives on Friday and then driving up to and overnighting in Ubud which is at 600 meters elevation. That might be tempting fate.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ve done this last year with no problem. Blue Lagoon is popular for snorkellers & beginner divers, it’s dive profile is sloping from 5 to 18m and most interesting part is around 5m entry buoy & to the left to Tanjung Sari ~ 15m. So, we’ll want to stay shallow as this would be our last day of diving.

Wally Siagian the author of Diving Bali mentioned in his book that we may see Balinese wobbegong there in Tanjung Sari. I haven’t get much luck in finding the wobbegong there. However, I saw them in Crystal Bay, in 2023.

I read the same book and was on the lookout for wobbegong sharks, but didn’t see one on this trip. I used to be a volunteer diver at the National Aquarium and there was a wobbegong shark in the blacktop reef exhibit, which would generally be laying motionless on the bottom and was hard to spot. One of my roles was to go in the exhibit with a full face mask and a wired Mike, and do talks for the public about shark conservation.

On just one of those dives, the wobbegong came swimming across me. I completely lost my train of thought during the talk, and started giggling like a kid from the excitement. People thought I must be crazy to be giggling at seeing a shark in captivity.

As you read in the Diving Bali book that the wobbegong in Bali is not the same as the one you commonly see in Raja Ampat. The one in Bali is more like those you commonly see in Australia, less tassels & straight tail (as opposed to curly tail of Raja Ampat wobbegong), as you see in my video.

Wally mentions in the book that it’s as if the Australian wobbegong got lost at sea from Australia and stranded in Bali.

That book is like 20 years old and the Wobys have probably moved on since then. I've seen some recent pics of them from Gili Bahia and Mimpang islands in Padang Bai, however.

I’m pretty sure Australian wobbegongs don’t need a visa to enter Bali for stays of less than 90 days.

The book is out of date (and out of print), but it was my original inspiration for planning a trip to Bali. It’s a bit of a rambling book and by the author’s own account there were many Bintangs consumed in the writing of it, but I loved its honesty and charm. You can still buy a used copy of it on Amazon for the Black Friday price of $249. :-)
