FWIW, standard procedure is to open/close upon reaching the bottom (at a minimum). Things often get bumped during entry, or it may free-flow/depressurize on when splashing.

Got it, will do this going forward, thank you.

Because most if my diving is off charter boats that supply single tanks. Double tanks are typically not available and even if they were, they'd be too heavy and cumbersome. I wouldn't use most if that gas as I'm not a tech diver.

By adding the pony to the configuration I have the safety of redundancy and the extra gas to extend my dive, and it weighs a lot less.

Li-er - can I share with you one of my deepest, darkest secrets?

I LOVE Stony Bottles!

I know I posted this image on the first page of this thread - me going for a recreational solo dive, with probably more items than you, without a retractor in sight, but look closer and you may see what secret I have been trying to hide from the world...

If I turned around you would see I am carrying the configuration in the middle (15L/120cuft on left and 12L/100cuft on right for scale):

Yes - that's right:

TWO STONY BOTTLES!

TWO STONY BOTTLES TIED UP TOGETHER!

Yes: it's true: I love Stonys so much I cant just have just one! I connected two together! For DOUBLE STONY ACTION! Two Stonys, connected by a metal Stony pipe with a StoneIsolator (tm) valve!

Two Stony bottles, smaller than a normal tank, but providing full redundancy rather than this 1/2 a 19 cuft nonsense. Full redundancy, for me and my buddy (if I have one) or for any stranger who just turns up and rips the reg out of my mouth during the dive! All this - without looking like a Christmas tree!

If one Stony bottle is great, then two, linked together, must be something incredible yes?

Not happy with just doubling my Stonys - these are special 300 bar (4350 psi) Super Stonys! Double Super Stonys so negative I don't need a weight belt, and am carrying less weight and more air than all those single tank + pony folk.

If you like a Stony, then you are going to LOVE a Double Stony!

Cheers
Rohan

Nice. Although of course I disagree with the negative comments directed towards my 19cf stony bottle.

I did consider 2 equal sized stony birthed one on each side of my primary tank but never got around to it.

You wet your drysuit? Oops, limited attention span here. Sorry! I finished your post and really like the tiny doubles setup. Cheers

You would certainly have to get a BP/W if you did. No way to rig your current BC to carry those banded doubles. Wait! I forgot who I was talking to, but you're going to need one massive retractor!

Of course you disagree with any negative comments, but I'm quite sure no serious agencies, dive instructors, commercial divers, search and rescue divers, expedition divers, or dive guides would dive your set up.
