ok so basically you made that up. Thank you for the info. The term "stony bottle" has it's orgins here.
See paragraph 3
After decades of diving with a back mounted stony bottle (19cf and 30 cf) I made the switch to slinging it and I wish I had done so much sooner. With the back mount I could never get the trim right, either too much or too little lead in the opposite pocket to offset the bottle caused a roll tendency throughout the dive and the available weight increments on the charter boat often made it impossible to get just the right amount in that opposite pocket. Sometimes when I didn't require any weight such as no wetsuit and steel tank, I'd have to add up to 4 lbs to offset the bottle, which meant...

I am enjoying it, very much. This year has been filled with adventure, local and abroad, to places including Egypt, Thailand, England, France and Micronesia (Truk Lagoon).
We just got back from Australia and in 3 weeks I'm headed back to the US for the first time since we moved here a year ago which was right after my last day of work. We spent this past year renovating our new villa and that's just about finished. The weather has been a bit cold, and being retired for a year I'm still not quite used to the downtime and how to fill it.
So here I am.
What’s the diving like in your part of Greece ?
Bolty, you're quite the pot-stirrer today! Is it the fasting?![]()

On personal note usually a bottle to extend a dive it s call a stage bottle. This is calculated in the gas planing and it s outside recreational diving. It does obviously need additional training that is not part of the open water course by any agencies.
A pony bottle in order hand is a redundant air source that we use only in case of emergency and it s not part of the dive planning. Once you leave the main air source and you go on the pony you abort the dive and go to the surface.
Does it make sense to you ? .
I think he is saying a proper tourniquiet is far more beneficial (which I agree with) and easy to have on you rather than a shoe lace which could cause problems. So bleeding out is a better option?
Hopefully you mean, "in each tank".I plan my gas management in such a way that I always have at least as much reserve between both tanks as a single tank AL80 diver
No doubt it’s better to have the best tool for the job but to understand why and with what is on hand is the more useful tool, you sometimes need to adapt to the situation without the best tool.I think he is saying a proper tourniquiet is far more beneficial (which I agree with) and easy to have on you rather than a shoe lace which could cause problems.
