So higher profile dive compasses allow more tilt before the dial gets stuck. But they appear to be bulky, at least from my view from the bridge as keyboard commander of the USS Interwebs. But are the high profile compasses easier to read through the side glass or is there no difference? I know the Suunto compasses are great, but I'm not willing to pay over $100. I was looking at the DGX Tech compass, but I wonder about the visibility of the lower profile.

The DGX tech compass works great. I have a higher profile compass that is on a wrist band that doesn’t do as good as a job for me.
If you search this forum you will find a couple of good ways to set the straps for wearing on the back of your hand. This method works best for me. They were posted by @Marie13 and @buddhasummer. Worth checking out.

Put it on the back of your hand and sight it like you would a rifle. That worked best for me.

Do you still have the picture you posted of it?
Here you are, it works well for me wouldn't wear it any other way.
