If the shop partial pressure blends EAN, you need to have O2 clean tanks. If they bank EAN, no need.

Stickers are not required so I'd say don't take your business to shop that 'require' you to have stickers.

There are fewer and fewer shops requiring nitrox tank wrappers thankfully. Ocean Divers in Key Largo is one of the hold outs. The wrapper is NOT about whether or not the tank is O2 clean, the wrapper is about the contents.

I have had them, last October, fill tanks with AIR that had old NITROX stickers on them (O2 clean VIP stickered) and at the end of the week they even filled a couple of tanks that didn't have NITROX stickers (again, O2 clean VIP stickered) with EAN32.

Thank you for clearing up that question for me.

Now I'm confused! Why would you even have NITROX stickers on tanks that have not been O2 cleaned and prepared?

Joy, only Luxfer has a requirement to O2 clean cylinders that are less than 40% O2 content. It is perfectly fine to put mixes of up to 40% in other manufacturers cylinders without O2 cleaning them AS LONG AS YOU AREN'T PP BLENDING. If the nitrox is coming from a membrane or nitrox stick, no harm, no foul.

I kinda thought the same thing myself, but wondered if there are any official DOT or other regulations out there that would specifically prohibit that practice.

DOT does not mandate, not even acknowledge the existence of nitrox labeling. Nor VIP stickers. All of that is an invention of the SCUBA industry.

Exactly!

exactly, however, the luxury of taking tanks to be filled at shops that actually have a 'clue' isn't always available.

For the most part, but then there are CGA standards which have labeling standards and DOT references all over their CFRs. I can never quite keep it all straight.

Here is my answer Tank stickers and for $1 a piece they are cheap enough to replace each year.

And for marking the contents and MOD - a little yellow duct tape and a Sharpie.

So, the other day I had a brainstorm and wondered if it makes more sense to put tank NITROX stickers on the tank 'boots' instead of on the tank cylinder itself ?

I think it's a great idea. That way when you throw the boots away you can get rid of that stupid sticker too!

:eyebrow:

I too have the "Voodoo gas" tank sticker. They are so funny and not serious compared to "real" nitrox stickers.

Some of my friends asked me where I found them and they ordered some for them.

Voodoo gas all the way!!

I had these on my tanks. I found people were a) not that smart or b) not that funny...
