Does the simple green really need to be clear (unscented)? I have the green forestry smelling stuff.
We had both the green & the clear in our shop. We also used it for the ultrasonic cleaner. If it was an air tank it got green and if it was a nitrox tank it got clear. They both got washed out 3 times with really hot water before being put upside down on the compressed air drier. I don't think it matters but others might have a better opinion.

The simple green is also a balance. Too much and it will stay on the bottom and stop your direct media hits. It's just a wetting agent to try and bind up the media to stay a little bit 'sticky & evenly' together. It helps the "curl" & collects the rust dust. It doesn't really clean the rust pits by itself in my opinion.

6 hours with the 1/4 #2 media in it. It was full above the neck trying to attack the bottom rust. Didn't work much. Video below. It previously had 4 hours with media #1 the small round balls. Going to use a mechanical brush on the bottom. The other videos are of the tools I made and the cleaners I have. I think #3 and defiantly #4 will not work well due to its size. Hard to get out after tumbling.

I made a whip almost exactly the same as yours but did not have a great deal of success with it. Another thread prompted me to try again and this one was much more successful and has replaced most of my previous tumbling attempts.

I am going to steal your tool plans. The air and vacuum attachment is brilliant. The whip you have ill make as well. What size cable did you use?

It is 1/8th stainless steel but what you already have looks good as to size. I did finally make a whip for the portion around the bottom that the other two didn't touch and will try to post a picture. It seemed whatever I did wet with HP tanks I could not avoid the flash rust which made me find a dry solution. I also rinse with alcohol after blowing out as much dust as possible but that is probably somewhat controversial so I won't recommend it. For some reason the LP tanks were never the same problem but I use the same method with them as well. In the rare case where rust is more severe I use phosphoric acid solutions first. The tumbler I made was very primitive and sat on the belt of a treadmill but was quite effective. Yours is a great build and much more sophisticated.

Simple green ha ha ha ha ha ha you will rub your tank walls off before anything worthwhile happens
for simple people that just don't get it about phosphoric, don't do the research, manufacturers use it

Ha ha h ha ahbna I keep a bucket of PHOS by the back door everyhting goes in it every week always

Hey look it turns green

Simpleton greeeeen, what's that about people, you can take them to water but can't make them think

Hey love get me the simple green please, good for o2 doesn't do anything but it's green and it's clean

Hey love while you're at it can you find an SDS and we'll check what the active constituent on this krud
kutter rustex krap is, where the distributor has factories full of people, mixing three capfuls of chemical
with a gallon of water then put a pretty sticker on a bottle all day every day to sell to an adoring public

Ooooh it's acid be scared, so is vinegar

Looks like way too much media and likely too fast to try and make up for it. You want just a bit more than covering the bottom. You want it to stick and slide. Try much less and lower speed, see if it doesn't clean faster.
As to the neck threads and O ring gland. I'll make a quick video how I handle it.
It requires a lot of technology and extensive skills.
Start with a 3/4" stainless steel pipe cleaning brush. Cut the handle off. Next step is in the video.

My hydro guy recently gave me one of these. Just sharing the source in case anyone is interested.
