So, the other day I had a brainstorm and wondered if it makes more sense to put tank NITROX stickers on the tank 'boots' instead of on the tank cylinder itself ?

1) is this 'legal'.....as in would a dive boat/ship have any reason to have an issue with this ?

2) As, I could easily spend over $100/yr replacing NITROX stickers on all my tanks for their 'annuals', I'm wondering why I should keep throwing my $ away on new stickers all the time ?

3) The stickers are a real pain in the b*tt to scrape off and replace.

3) I've noticed my NITROX stickers are easily damaged/shredded up by BC cam bands sliding up and down over them, even when I place the stickers as 'low' as possible on the tank cylinders.

...so, I'm thinking buy one set of NITROX stickers, place them on the boots, and all those problems vanish.

...any thoughts ?

You don't need them for me, I don't use them at all anymore for the reasons you cited. But, who was gigging you for $100 for new wraps? Would you like to buy a nice VR-3?

Hi Frank,

...well, with 9 'singles', 2 twinsets, a bunch of stickers starts to add up, and some shops/dive ops are more anal about labeling than others, especially the more 'recreationally' oriented dive shops.

...about the VR 3, I've heard too many horror stories about their complexity, plus they've got to ship back to England for repair work, my Cochrans are already complex enough! :)

I'm thinking of scraping everything off, and maybe replacing them with those small NITROX semi-circular stickers that are mounted to the very top of the tank that fit around the base of the tank valve, that way the cam bands won't shred them at least, IF I decide I still need the stickers in the first place.

Why use any at all? Your VIP sticker should indicate if your tanks are O2 cleaned, and if they are filled with NITROX, that should also be cleared labeled.

The problem is, my tanks are NOT O2 cleaned, which is a needless expense for recreational levels of NITROX, so I can't get an O2 clean VIP sticker put on them, and 'yes' they have those little strips of yellow NITROX tape indicating the mix %....MOD...date...etc., but some shops have issues filling tanks without some sort of NITROX sticker on them in the first place.

I get my tanks filled via membranes or pre-banked, not partial pressure as it's too much work/worry to be sure their O2 clean.

I would expect folks to ignore stickers on boots.

I kinda thought the same thing myself, but wondered if there are any official DOT or other regulations out there that would specifically prohibit that practice.

Now I'm confused! Why would you even have NITROX stickers on tanks that have not been O2 cleaned and prepared?

Why would you expect a tank to be O2 cleaned just because it has a NITROX sticker?
