We are currently having a discussion in another thread about buoyancy so please don't hit on it here.

I am looking to purchase a PST104 off of craig's list and I was wondering what the value of the tank would be. Here are the specs.

Out of hydro/viz
DIN convertible valve (no do-nut that I'm aware of yet)
O2 cleaned, nitrox (I'm not nitrox certified)

The seller is asking $275 for the tank. I'm thinking that is a touch high (I'm in middle TN remember) so you guys on the coast(s) please remember this when you comment. I was thinking of offering $250 contingent on hydro/viz passage (I'm sure it will, but still). The seller says he is willing to wiggle on the price, but says he is giving me a deal at $275. I emailed him and basically said the same as above, but more verbose.

Here are my thoughts, buoyancy is an issue, I don't NEED DIN, I don't NEED nitrox (neither have a value to me). Your thoughts would be appreciated. TIA

That seems expensive to me. I have seen folks sell doubled 104's in hydro, with bands and manifolds for anywhere between $450 and $600. O2 cleaned for Nitrox is not going to raise the price of a tank out of Vis and Hydro.

In my searches I've seen the same, though at that price you are required to take the package. Hence the cheaper pricing (I guess). I just talked to a hydro guy and he said I needed to find the date and types of diving done with the tank. He said if this tank was used for cave diving that is a serious issue.

If it is out of hydro then it will not be O2 cleaned when the hydro is done so that is worth nothing. I would think $200 would be a fair price. Hydro & vis with associated minimal risk on you.

Seems expansive to me too. Hydro will cost you $50, it will probably cause a bit more to keep the O2 clean status. Then you almost looking at price of a new tank. New tank came O2 clean too. I would even say $200 a bit high if out of hydro, maybe $175.

The hydro guy pointed out that it is common for the cave divers to max fill to 4000psi and stretch the tanks to the point where they won't pass hydro after the first five years. He does a lot of hydros and dives a lot in that area so I'll take his word for it.

Oh I know. I am one of those evil cave divers! LOL. My fills are usually 3600 though, and I have not had anything fail hydro yet. Knock on wood. My PST 104's are actually out of hydro now because I have been gone for two years. :( I hope they pass when I get home.

The Home Alone guys was supposed to be funny. I failed. :(

Nah no failure. I fully intend to be filling this to at least 3200psi with a cool down psi of about 29-3PSI. But if someone is cranking them up to 4k or above I guess I need to know if I'm going to drop that kind of coin. I just don't want to run into the issue I had with the steel 72 I bought. I dive that exclusively now because I love the buoyancy load, and the volume at 3k as compared to my Al80 at 3k. I'm kinda dreamy thinking of the 104 at 3k. I would actually be able to stay down with my buddy who is using at steel 130.

He is asking a lot I think . I just purchased a brand new Faber lp108 for $320 including tax viz .fill o2 cleaned . I would offer him $175 to $200 and make it understood that if it will not pass hydro or a viz you want your money refunded back or tell him you will give him the hole amount if he gets it hydoed and a new viz inspection.you are taking a big risk buying as is. last month i purchased a lp100 used had a new hydro and viz (02-12)got it 3 day's later (ups) took it to my lds they popped the valve to peek in side . in was BAD bottom was black sides was brown worked on it for a week tried all option available. there was large flaked off areas that could not be fixed . Good news for me the gentleman that sold itt to me gave me my money back. So be diligent when you look it over and make the deal Good luck . if its good it will be a good deal/ and tank
