It occured to me (and pointed out) after making the first post on this thread that many people post here to ask questions.
My rant was aimed at people who for instance tell me I shouldn't dive my doubles with my manifold closed even though I've done it this way for years and they have logged a couple of dives with a tech instructor who knows a guy who's met King George III.

It seems to me that you are flattering yourself here. I don't think anybody cares how you dive or that you know someone who knows someone who knows GI3 (by the way, your discription of "King George" is a slight towards a man you don't even know).

Furthermore, number of dives or cert level does not a good diver make. I know "tech instructors" who can't stay off the bottom or stay in good trim and have more logged dives than what you are broadcasting in your profile. In fact, a lot of instructors log every bounce dive they do when teaching an open water class and then proceed to tought their 1000's of dives they have but still have no skill.

What to do with Kev? Uh, let me start a poll on that. :crazy3:

Can I have him? :eyebrow:

I'm a big responsibility, are you sure? I have to be fed and watered and walked three times a day.... and I just wouldn't survive very long in Cinci, I've already tried that once. Too far from warm saltwater.

Kev, did you notice the Poll I set up for you? http://scubaboard.com/t72568-what-to-do-with-scubakevdm-chose-one-or-more.html So far, 82% say give you to her.

No, you must have seen it. There's one vote for Put him in charge. :voskl1:

I wish I could afford to dive as much as I post!

When i first found scubaboard i read the posts with full acceptance of what was being written, now i tend to review the profile of the writer before making any asumptions. Some of these just beggar belief, thousands of posts but less than a 100 dives. My favorite featured a post suggesting what would happen to bouyancy below a 100 feet and how to solve the problem when the writer by their own admission has never been below 85 feet.

As boomx mentions there are alot of very experienced dive professionals out there who do not have good dive skills, but there are also many posters on here who do not know what they are talking about, but unfortunately the quantity of their posts gives them some credibility.

Right on! Uh, you wanta' up date your Dive Profile - for some credibility? :lol2: We got a new system, and you need to tweak it. ;)

I double check every bit of advice I've gotten with people I know. This is a nice place to get second opinions or to double check on advice you've gotten from divers you know. The advice I give is always simply what worked or didn't work for me, and I always try to be up front about my level of experience.

In a nutshell, I think all advice given in this forum should be double checked. Bascically, people can write whatever they want on their profiles.

Yeah, I'd noticed that before - if a member hadn't updated the Dive Profile after the revision, the logged dives didn't show up on the posts. Now your's does. Always good to set a good example, eh?

BTW, your friend in the purple is cute. :D
