Unless you run out of gas. Sure be nice to have a few more breaths to get to the surface, wouldn’t it? Peace of mind and all?

Again I think about 45 years ago someone invented the submersible pressure gauge. With 52 years of diving 5 of witch were with a “J” valve and no SPG, I have never run out of air.

Good for you. As a Liveaboard operator I have seen a number of divers surface violently in a cloud of bubbles when their face o-ring blew. As a tech diving student I watched my instructors diaphragm blow out of his Apeks reg. Monitoring your gas supply is indeed laudable but doesn’t solve the problems a pony bottle is designed to fix.

Hah. Have used an Air2 on every one of 4000 dives, and the Sherwood Shadow+ before that from the day I got certified. And have carried a pony on perhaps the last 2,000 dives.

And you are still ALIVE???

:)

You probably wear split fins too.

I wear a pony every dive. It's a good thing.

I do too.

As a photographer I frequently keep away from the crowd stirring up silt etc., nice to have pony along just in case.

My pony also doubles as a stage when tech diving and is an AL30 containing EAN50 because my AL40s hold 100%

Pressed Steel E series 119 with “H” DIN valve. Pony’s are not needed.

Good luck convincing a NJ boat captain that your H valve is your redundant air source.

Whatever you are into. One brings extra money on vacation, extra socks skiing, extra fuel for your ATV and extra ammo to the range, Im one who brings extra air/gas on a dive in a little container called a pony bottle. Just like insurance, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. A big thought for me is if someone else is in trouble I can just hand it off and get them going on the pony if needed.

Just get a AL40? It’s not much bigger and carries sufficient gas for a 40m ascent. Experienced divers chim in.

+1 Yes an AL30 (or AL40) holds more gas and may be just as easy to sling, but good luck squeezing one of those into your luggage when you travel (fly) to dive. I'm sticking with my AL19, thank you very much
