I think the criterion they're considering is, "Are you Catherine, Thalassamania, One Bright Gator, or Daniel Aleman? No? You're in!":D

Well, if you look at the poll results both Catherine and Thalassamania voted for it to be an opt in forum. Even they see the merits of the opt in option. At this point I don't think you should have to have a mod let you in. I think anyone should be able to freely join or un-join as they wish. I think the opt in alone would take care of the most of the problems.

I don't think you should be able to hide it on your profile that you are in the forum so that the rest of the board can't see. If you are ashamed to even have people know that you are reading and trying to learn in cyberspace—then I guess you would be even more ashamed to try to incorporate anything in real life-- just my thoughts on the matter. I don’t come to the forum to have anyone validate me as a person or as a diver or to get approval from other board members in this forum or other forums. I have come to read, learn and try to apply the information.

I think mods should only get involved when someone is being a problem in the forum.

Just decide what the dir-answer to this question is and then delete all the other posts...this is the dir-forum after all...

All,

The SB staff has had several discussions in the back rooms to address the questions posted here as to what to do with the DIR forums. We discussed opt in, heavy moderations, non-moderations and everything in between.

Our decision was to create a separate forum to provide a closed community for the divers that adhere strictly to DIR. This subforum is called DIR Practitioners Zone forum and can be found under the main DIR forum. We have asked and received acceptance from some prominent DIR practitioners on this board to act as MOD's there. You will see this come up in the next few days.

The main difference between the two forums is that in order to join the DIR Practitioners forum, you need to be an active DIR diver and credentials will be verified at the time of opting in. The general DIR forum will remain as is to allow everyone free exchange of DIR ideas and questions.

We thank you all for participating in these discussions. SB staff wants to deliver what you want to see and we hope you continue to have these discussions about the future of this, or any other forum. We are always watching and discussing what is going on.

With this, we are closing this thread.

Regards,

SB staff
