I contacted DiveTank.com about putting pockets on a Bare Nex-Gen drysuit, which is to my understanding a Bi-laminate drysuit, and they said that pockets CAN'T be put on them. Does this just mean they can't do it at the factory or that it won't work at all?

I'd really like to have pockets, but it's an extra $100 for a 4mm neoprene, the cheapest that has pockets.

BTW, should I get 4mm neoprene or the Nex-Gen? I'd like the idea of wearing street clothes under the neoprene one, but I don't want big buoyancy changes.

Here's the two suits:

Nex-Gen: (https://www.divetank.com/gear/product.php?id=117)
4MM: (https://www.divetank.com/gear/product.php?id=110)

Thanks!

i have the smae questions...sorta, i want a drysuit, but i dont really know the difference between the nex-gen, neopreme, and the other one...tri-something?!?!
im new at this, so bear with me....

There are some good threads on this issue to check out, such as this:

capelli: What kind of temps is that, when you just wear shorts and shirt under it?

Also, what do most of you wear UNDER the drysuit undies?

usually i wear shorts and t -shirt around 78and up any colder i wear the bare jump suite underneath (undies) .

Perhaps the material is different, but I own a Whites Aquapro Bilam suit and they asked me if I wanted one pocket or two. The pockets are held on by a type of mounting bracket so you can remove or replace the pocket.

Pocket, pocket, pocket, I love that word, pocket. I think I may be narced. Pocket.

Oh, yes: pocket, pocket. Prounounce the o like in boat. Pocket, pocket

Oh, yeah, I've seen those clip things. I emailed DiveTank and they said that all it was is that Bare won't attach pockets to the Nex-Gen, but it would be fine for me to put some on.

Yes, you can mount pockets on the suit - Bare's one up from the Nex-gen has them. The Nexgen and whites aquapro are actually monolaminate, instead of BIlaminate (useless information, really) but.....

anyway - all they do is glue the pocket on - on the whites, it is stiched on as well before they heat-seal it with the polymer backing. The white's "matrix" allows you to custom the pocket - you could probably just glue the matrix on the nex-gen if you wanted a pocket the easy way - but it's still going to cost you about $100.

Nice thing about shell suits is that they are a bit more durable, and less prone to punctures. They are also popular because they're much easier to move around in. Trilaminates are stiffer, more durable, and more expensive than a bi or monolaminate.
