I have an older palegic transmitter. After setting up for tomorrow and doing an air test I hear a faint "squeak, squeak, squeak". Its comin from what appears to be the hose side of the transmitter. Any idea?

I have another one so I'm fine for tomorrow, but what can I do about this one? It worked fine on my last dive, but I don't want to take it on another and have it flood.. very odd.

Thoughts?

Have you dunked it in a bucket to see if/where bubbles originate?

I haven't done anything. Getting ready for a dive in the early morning so I just had to switch it out. I'm sure it's leaking somehow.

I sent an email to Huish, which I guess would do any service work. I can't find anything online about a rebuild, parts kit or anything so I guess it all done by them.

Yes. At least for Oceanic transmitters. They don’t do the service for other brands. They’ve been pretty responsive when I contacted them on the past for transmitter service. In my case, it was Oceanic so no issues.

Once they confirm the SN, they will provide you with an RMA number to send your old one in. When they receive it, they will contact you to authorize payment. $120 plus tax and shipping, IIRC. When that is paid, they’ll send out a replacement. It will be a rebuilt unit with new SN.

The squeaking has me think it’s one of two things. Perhaps the o-ring that seals to the HP port (or spool if you use a hose) is leaking a bit. Or, could be the OPV is going. If the former, easy enough to fix. If the latter, need to send it in.

Hi @rob.mwpropane

Do what @inquis suggested and test it in a tub.

If directly attached to the 1st stage, you only have the o-ring, I had one leak. If you use a hose, you also have the spool, have had several leak with an SPG. You can examine the over pressure valve, may be obvious if missing/discolored, compare it with your good one. If it leaked, there may be water in the battery compartment. I have had one transmitter fail due to the OPV. Let us know what you find.

See this regarding replacement by Huish

Good luck

So my dive got blown out today😥.. all the way on the boat and cancelled due to fog. Captain treated to lunch though, good guy.

Some news on the transmitter. No noise today, no leaks. I still need to get a little bowl to dunk it in, but I can't hear anything at all.

Huge plus is it's a "BM" so Huish should be willing to take care of it.

WTF??? You live in Maryland not some BFE remote island on mars. What kind of "little bowl" do you "need to get"??? Just fill your bathroom sink or bath tub and stick the damn thing in and stop keeping us in suspense.

BTW, happy holidays!

🤣🤣🤣

The only tanks I have are doubles here at the house. I'll work something out.. maybe I have a deco tank down in the basement.

No cereal bowl, mixing bowl, or popcorn bowl?...no tuperware-like container?

Hell, you can fill a ziplock bag in a pinch if you really don't have ANY container to use otherwise.
