Hate to rain on the parade.
Had mine about a month. First impression, hard to breath.
Took it back to LDS, they said it needed adjusting. Next dive, free flow problem.
Took it back, Tech showed me how to adjust it, OK now.
Mouth piece = terrible and you can't replace it without causing free flow problems.

Its nice to have 1 less hose.
Is it better than a Sherwood, ScubaPro or Zeagle? Doubt it.

I'll be calling Atomic on Monday. Will let you know what they say. (my LDS has had their shot)

The Atomic Aquatics staff read and respond to issues on this board all of the time. If you do some searches on Scubaboard, you can potentially find the names and emails of individual people at Atomic to contact in case this particular thread was missed by them.

About 6 months ago I posted an issue here and received calls and even follow-up from Atomic people individually. They addressed a repair issue at my LDS and provided stellar service. Todd

I own both a Black Pearl (+- 50 dives) and the SS1 Titanium (+- 40 dives). I really take care of the Black Pearl when it comes to cleaning, while the SS1 definitely does not get the same care. The Black Pearl is showing some signs of corrosion, while the SS1 still looks brand new inside. I definitely think it's worth it. It can't be used for O2 mixes greater than 40% though as it's titanium.

One note though and not sure if everyone with an SS1 is aware of this, but the mouth piece is a special design for that reg. So when the time comes to replace it, get the proper replacement unit from atomic. It's design helps prevent free flows.

I wasn't aware of this. I used mine for about a year with the stock mouth piece from my Z2 on it. It worked fine and never freeflowed. Breathed great down to 110'. I agree with all positives given above. Only minor negative was that it was mounted to a longer corrugated hose that tended to dangle excessively. That would probably be an issue regardless of brand, though.

I never knew about the special mouth piece until I took their factory reg course. Nice to hear that you didn't experience any free flows with a non-ss1 mouth piece.

I have a longer corrugated hose on another rig, I tie a small bungie loop to my shoulder D-Ring and stuff the corrugated hose in that loop to keep it from dangling. If you don't tie the loop to tight, it will come free fairly easy should you need to lift that hose straight up over your shoulder. You have to make sure the bungie doesn't interfere with your ability to access that reg quickly

It's a great reg, but those who dive it should practice making ascents while breathing off of it.

Cheers

Just got it back from Atomic, quick service.
It breathes completly diffrent than before. Very smooth, not hard to breathe and no free flow.
Makes me glad I purchased it from an authorized dealer.:D
My LDS are nice guys but all thumbs when it comes to service.
Also glad to know I can replace the mouth piece.

Nice to hear it worked out well for you. Did they say what was wrong with it?

Cheers
