I'd like to request the opinion of Atomic SS1 owners on whether or not you're happy with the SS1; faults, issues, like, dislikes? Did you chose something else?

I'd like not to start an integrated octo vs. non-integrated octo discussion. I've some of those threads already.

Thanks in advance.

My family owns three Atomic SS1 units. We really like them and have never had any problems with them free-flowing. They breathe really well and the unit comes with three adapters that allow it to be used with almost any BC corrugated hose.

The ability to simply unscrew it after the end of the dive day makes thoroughly rinsing out the inside of your BC bladder extremely simple (which means it gets done instead of being skipped :10: ).

The ability to simply unscrew the SS1 also comes in handy when packing for a dive trip that includes airplane flights. My carry-on bag contains my BC, SS1, regulator, dive computer & prescription mask and other essentials.

The SS1 units my family owns have been used on the following BCs

Sherwood Luna
ScubaPro KnightHawk
ScubaPro LadyHawk
Aeris ATMOS XT

My wife has had her SS1 for 3 years and loves it. (I dive a different rig for different reasons. But all 6 sets of regs we own are Atomic) No problems at all with it and it's never free flowed.

One note though and not sure if everyone with an SS1 is aware of this, but the mouth piece is a special design for that reg. So when the time comes to replace it, get the proper replacement unit from atomic. It's design helps prevent free flows.

Cheers

Steve

You're gonna die!

OK, just kidding. I love mine. Only 26 dives on it, but I love it. For all the reasons stated above. I did make a change though. On my bp/w I found both the bc fill hose and Atomic lp hose too short to do safe air-share drills. I got longer hoses to allow for more range of motion. Also, on a side note, remember if you are going to use an SS1 you will be offering your primary for air sharing. Make sure that hose is long enough and you practice!

Hate to rain on the parade.
Had mine about a month. First impression, hard to breath.
Took it back to LDS, they said it needed adjusting. Next dive, free flow problem.
Took it back, Tech showed me how to adjust it, OK now.
Mouth piece = terrible and you can't replace it without causing free flow problems.

Its nice to have 1 less hose.
Is it better than a Sherwood, ScubaPro or Zeagle? Doubt it.

Easy breather and no free flows.

It sounds like you should have the LDS replace it with a new unit.

We have replaced the SS1 mouthpiece with the standard Atomic second stage mouthpiece on all three of our SS1s and have not encountered any free-flows whatsoever.

My Atomic SSI titanium works great. It breathes as effortlessly as my B1 and it swivels. The only flaw that I could find is that it breathes slightly wet when inverted, but in an OOA situation I don't think I'd be upside down for long.
