I could be mistaken as I have not read what passed in FL, but I have een told it os for offshore drilling of natural gas & not oil.

That, if true, changes the discussion. if it is limited to NG, then what would be the reason to oppose it?

hahah, nice stir, but to add to the pot ;) Don't people in alaska value their wildlife as much as we value our reefs?:coffee:

I think you'll find the residents of Alaska in favor it of it. It's all the busybodies elsewhere who have a problem with it. ;)

Actually, I believe that the majority of Alaskans favor drilling in ANWR ...

On that same point, someone correct me asap if I'm wrong, but didn't the citizens of Cape Cod throw a hissy fit when wind turbines/mills were put up?! What ever happened there?:coffee:

so how many MPG does your car get
how many cars your household have
how do you get power for your home,
solar, wind..???
yeah it sucks that they wanna drill more, but unless you have a electric car and have no powerlines going to your home, ya really have no room to complain..
if ya wanna hug a tree theres plenty on land
leave the ocean alone

I get it... if you have no values, nobody can ever call you a hypocrite. :shakehead

We have PLENTY of room to complain even though we don't do the things you mentioned above. Why? Well obviously (to most poeple) it's because they are not available to the average consumer. Being environmenally sensible is a luxury that most people can't afford.

Sure. I'll just nip out to the dealer and buy an electric car. On my way home I'll pick up a windmill for my house and get zoning permission to set it up. No problem. Then I'll sign up for a dive trip on a boat that only runs on biodiesel.

Now ask yourself why these things aren't possible. Is it because they are beyond our technological capabilities or is it a quesiton of priorities?

When we wanted an atomic bomb we put our best minds on the job and bloody well built one. But somehow setting up a model for sustainable energy consumption is just too darn hard for us.

I have a few friends and in-laws who live in Alaska...and they are all in favor of it. Something about the last one they built helping the economy and boosting the Caribu population or some such stuff. But, that's like saying "well, everyone I KNOW says they want it"...which is worth little.

Thats interesting...but then again, its not the only reason, but wouldnt the state be reaping royalties and subsequently could lower taxes if it finally came to that?

I'm not informed enough on the topic, but I understand increased royalties to states is what is makeing the natural resource drilling so populare?

While I am not thrilled about the drilling I must say that this will have NO affect on our current oil crisis. The problem is lack of refineries which would probably cause a whole different thread. "They want to build a refinery on the Gulf Coast, Call your Senator".

BTW you Senator doesn't give a crap about your feelings or thoughts.

I don't count on much until I've read the actual bill. I've found that reporters don't always report things acurately.

I personally am in favor of increasing domestic production of energy. Everyone likes to gripe about the cost of gas but then they oppose any & everything that could increase the domestic supply which would increase the total supply & put competition on foreign sources.

You can have more fuel, you can have supply & capacity more adequately meet demand. But you can't do that & be largely dependant on the good graces of other nations who own & produce the majority of the fuel you consume.
