How many folks here have electric only cars?

And just because it's an electric car doesn't mean that a fossil fuel wasn't used to create the electricty used the 're-charge' the car?

Even if you have an electric car, you still have a dependence on oil. Oil is used to make the asphalt we drive on, it's used in the manufacturing of the tires on your car, it's used in the shingles on the roof of your house.

Like Mat said, there are no winners. Unless Dr Emmett Brown can put a nuclear reactor (Mr. Fusion machine) in every car out there, cars will still require oil to run. Of course a "Mr. Fusion" machine in a car crash involves all kinds of other problems and concerns.

They should also raise the cafe standards but this makes the auto unions unhappy so forget about it

People think petroleum is used only to run engines in cars. I have not checked in recent times what the numbers are now but most oil is burned generating electriciy and petrochemical industry. You know, you buy a DVD and it is wrapped in six layers of plastic and in a plastic box---that is petroleum. Fertilzers, plastics, chemicals, and electrical power generation consme a large percentage of petroleum. It isn't just cars.

We have answers, nobody likes them, wind, solar--ho hum---nukes---yeah!!!!!!!!!!, plentiful power, no pollution, store the waste until we discover Warp Drive and can send into the Sun or stack it on the moon using the elevator to space concept. Nucleor reactors and future such technology can greatly reduce our petroleum needs--starting now.

Our current lifestyle is non sustainable both for us and the planet. N

Let em build the platforms... the way we're being dealt storms it'll be 20 years before they get drilled anyway and by that time I hope the alternative fuels being worked with now will be a much bigger market (biodiesel and low cost solar panels for instance). I'm so over using liquid dinosaur as a source of power.. its a limited resource with a defined end point.
