I was wanting to see what the most used octo holder is. I have tried several and have'nt found one I like. I am thinking of going with a SS clip and small cable tie. Is this a good way or is there a better one ?

Bungeed around the neck with a long hose on your primary.

A snorkel keeper through a D-ring is very popular. You loop the keeper through the D-ring, pull one end through the hole on the other end, and then pull the free end around the mouthpiece.

(I've done basically the same thing with those no-metal elastic ponytail holder hair ties, but that's just because I have long hair and always have an abundant supply.)

There are also octo holders that are similar to the snorkel keepers but have one square end instead of 2 round ends. I'm on my 4th try for an octo holder that won't let the octo rip out during a giant stride entry, and this is the one that so far is working the best.

I don't guess I've seen that one DiveMaven. I just bought clips I'm going to try those and see if I like them.

Incidentally, you know those "octo ball" holder thingies that they say are good because it makes the octo easy to spot? Well, the octo ball is indeed easy to spot, and in my experience, the octo's also really easy to spot after a giant stride -- it's hanging below the diver with the octo ball. :D

I've had good success with one of these (scroll down to octo keeper)

You can make it yourself (and with a SS clip). The big trick to using it is, if you put the octo in it facing up it will fall out every time on a giant stride. But if you put it in facing down, it works great. Dang, I think it's the other way around.

Haven't had any problems so far using this.

If you're not going to go the long hose route, Snorkel keepers are really the best way to go. More durable and far cheaper than any special-purpose clip. Easily replaceable anytime, anywhere. Simple + reliable + cheap = win!
