My preference:
1. Modified long hose on primary. Really just a "short" long hose... enough for sharing if needed. Hose routed under right arm with 70swivel on 2nd stage side Stays close to body at all times.
2. Secondary 2nd stage reg on bungee necklace... never even know its there.
3. Ditch the SPG... stick with AI transmitter (and no, no short hose needed). Just connect to 1st stage port.
4. Fingers spool already tied to smb and bungied together. I keep this on a d-ring on my harness belt with a bolt snap. I don't want to fumble around for it if I need it. It's right there by my waist and I never notice it until I need it.
5. Gopro on small floatie handle tied to single end bolt snap clipped to harness chest d-ring.
6. Small flashlight also tied to single end bolt snap and clipped to harness chest d-ring. Kept in place with small lycra band against harness.
7. Trilobyte line cutter in nylon sheath mounted to wing corrugated hose.
8. Back up 3" knife, pryer, tank banger, murder weapon on sheath on harness belt

No pockets required.
(e.t.a. my avatar is decades old... not my current setup )
Sounds really solid and pretty much what I’m going for. I might need to play with octo on necklace because it sounds uncomfortable, but everyone recommends it.

I put a crotch strap on mine for the DPV, no problem. The Hydros doesn't need the crotch strap by design, but I put one on after I got my dpv. The Hydros is very adjustable and customizable. I can attach anything I need to it while being secure and organized.

I found out from SP tech services that I can change the whole harness to make the Hydros a smaller size if I lose a lot of weight and needed a smaller size BC without needing to buy a whole new BC.

The only complaint, if you want to call it a complaint, is that the shoulder d-rings are somewhat small. I fixed that easily by replacing them with 2-inch circular steel rings. It's a beautiful solution with no issues doing it.
my partner changes hers from a Large to a Medium and tis amazing as you sitll have the bigger air volume from the larger rigs but with more streamlined straps.

They ("everyone") are generally not putting a conventional octopus on a necklace. This is usually done for those who donate the long hose primary and the secondary is on a very short hose and is necklaced. The necklace is fixed under the mouthpiece.

If you want to necklace an octopus for donation then it will need a slip knot or fisherman type knot so the octopus can be pulled free for donation without the mouthpiece coming off.

Long hose primary for donation, necklaced secondary for me in such case:

My wife with her octopus for donation necklaced on a slip knot. I did shorten her necklace, little people do not need such a large loop ;):

One could, if overly minimalist, stay out of the water all together…

Freestyle snorkel, swim goggles and lap fins are pretty bad ass, IYAM.

Did she have to order several parts or does SP have one kit to do that? Was it easy for her to do the actual changing of the harness?

You need the right tools to do it I don’t think it can just be done with the MFS tool.

We had ours done at our LSS and they only charged £20 for the labour… multiple parts, shoulders, waist (but this isn’t 100% needed but I’ll check my invoice if I can find it. The straps are horribly expensive though.

Would you be kind enough to share the parts list required for this harness change? I am more interested in the part numbers and descriptions, not the prices.

Sorry can’t help with a picture (my Hydros is back in Egypt, I rarely use it now but I keep as a spare it If I wanna dive with friends);
I bungee my SMB between the bladder and the soft backplate using 2 of these (I got a 30pack from Amazon for like 20; the ball is just a guide to finding it by hand vs the bladder bungee —you can easily just do bungee without the ball thingy)

I basically thread them though the “backplate” kind of kidney level and tuck the SMB there predive; and forget about it till I need to deploy - reach with arm, tug free, use

Once at surface I had rolled it back, and hang on Dring till I’m out (as it’s not easy to place the SMB back there with the BC on)

When I switched to the crotch strap harness I would reattach the SMB there rather than a shoulder Dring

Spool is part of the SMB “roll”, on the inside

For shoulder Dring located stuff (torches, spare boltsnaps) I use inner tube sections to keep them trimmed and not dangle

I used the ninja and thigh pocket; disliked both (they tighten motion at my hip joint due to length) and switched to tec shorts for real storage (GoPro, notes, line cutter, spare mask, primary light)
