Hi! I am going to be in Kittery/York Beach area at the end of August (heaven help us...I haven't been in "in" season in years, and based on how busy the "off" season has been, don't know what kind of crowds to expect this year!), and have always wanted to dive at Nubble Light (I would sit and watch the divers go in and out and be so jealous!).

I will have just finished my open water certification a week or so before, and from what I have researched, this area is in the realm of a new diver, however, finding a dive shop hasn't been to easy. I can find one in Portsmouth (who I will be calling early next week) and a few in Portland. I would like to hire a DM to take me as well. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good DM/dive shop to rent equipment as well? I know about the buddy boards, but as this will be my 1st time in the ocean and the 1st dive after my certification, am I on tract to be better with a DM?

Thanks for the advice! :D

If Spectrum does not see this message, PM him. Here is his site

Sundays are banned in season, Saturdays parking is an issue (7AM is OK, 8 or after is tough). High tide makes the entry much less slippery. Fantastic site.

There are not local dive shops in York that I know of.

Vet, Aqua Diving Academy should be able to help you, I do not know if they have a DM/Guide available but ask as for rental gear they can take care of you too. Phone number is 207-772-4200 ask for Lee or Julie , they are about 40 minutes North of Nubble but there are several good shore dives around here perfect for beginners and advance alike and they are not as hard to park at usually. Feel free to PM me, my wife and I dive here and we are somewhat familiar with the sites but definitly can give you some input and hey maybe we could dive with you if you need some buddies. Take care and have fun

Oh and we moved here from PA so know how it feels to be land locked

I will be back from vacation by then and I'd be happy to share a site or 2 with you. Nubble may not be the best choice for a cold water/ ocean orientation but it's certainly in the novice range. I'm not a DM but I do take a special interest in working with new divers and sharing our local sites.

Your shop options are Portland and the Portsmouth area.

PM me if care to.

Pete
