yup that is the main purpose of a TV ad to sell the brand but TV Ads have specific product and emotional benefits that it aims to communicate for each copy and sometimes the number of benefits or the complexity of such are focused on too much during copy development that the "entertainment" (or the engagingness) of the ad is sacrificed.

jonix:
interesting...i tested a clutter reel (6 tv ads) before...it's usually the funny ads that gets easily recalled...but it's the serious ads that they understand...all in a span of 2 minutes :D

how do you test a clutter reel? do you show ad 1 then ask questions, then reel 2 then ask again or do you show the whole reel and ask questions?

Jon are you with synovate?

show the whole reel and ask questions...you'll most likely get one that stands out then use it as a benchmark to test your brand's ad

no not with synovate :D

Jonix has his own company that deals with research for consumer sentiments, their report is what is used for FGD (focus group discussions) where target consumer remarks are noted from which a copy or storyboard is then derived.

ayan ha, selling jonix services.

the information herein is intentionally twisted to elicit a reaction from Jonix, so he may come out in the open and put things straight.

ehhehehhe

i recall having meetings with safi people mga 2-3 years back, can't recall their names though.

where do I get that documentary?! I am most interested in how you approach this topic. It is amazing how us, who are in some way involve in the industry, analyze and explain advertising but when we talk to the lay person it is simple as them saying "ah yes, that funny advertisement of xxx brand".

I will really try to be in the party but would not have that beer :) waiter! a double of skimmed non-fat milk please! on the rocks!
