I'm planning my wedding and can't come up with a good song for the father/daughter dance. "Butterfly Kisses" is out because I bawl like a baby every time I hear it. What did you use at your wedding? My dad would like bluegrass, I don't particularly care what kind of music it is but want something heartfelt that won't make me cry.
Thanks for your help!

by Rod Stewart is mine and my Daughter's song... The lyrics are especially cool! It is very Folk Irish, which can be made to be Blue Grass, if you catch my drift. Change the bagpipes to banjos, and walla!

Here are the words written by Bob Dylan, but I like the Stewart's version better...

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every one
May you stay
Forever young

Chorus
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be true
May you stay
Forever young

[Chorus]

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
May your song always be sung
May you stay
Forever young

[Chorus]

danced to Stevie Nick's Landslide. I get teary-eyed now almost everytime I hear it. It is a song that Stevie wrote for her own father. No matter what you pick, it will become a special song to you.

Forever Young
By Rod Stewart

May the good life be with you down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness surround you
When you're far from home
May you grow to be proud, dignified, and true
And do unto others as you'd have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever young...Forever young...

May good fortune be with you
And may your guiding light be strong
Build stairway to heaven
With a prince or a vagabond
And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you will remain
Forever young...Forever young

When you finally fly away
I'll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell
But whatever road you choose
I'm right behind you win or lose
Forever young...Forever young...

Dads will dance with their daughters to any music or to none.
Those of us who can still hear prefer a tune (no rap... actual music please) with a beat. If you can do any of the steps your dad knows that'd be a plus - but the bottom line is this: A Dad measures the quality of the dance by the smile on his daughter's face, and the memory will be the smile, not the music.
Trust me.
I have experience in these matters...

Alison Krauss and Union Station - "When you say nothing at all"

Rawlin's Cross - "The Wedding Song"

That would be my first two thoughts

Enjoy

Did you want the song from my first wedding, or my second?

That old diving favorite, A Moray, goes something like:

See that thing on the reef
with the big shiney teeth
than's a moray...

oh nevermind.:D
