Scott,

Nice troll, but I wouldn't put one on my rig.

Let me think. How about a stuck inflator during an OOA ascent on one of these things. If you disconnect, there goes your air supply. If you don't, you both are going to the surface rather quickly. Detroit Diver is correct about these. They are poorly thought out pieces of equipment. The one less hose argument does not cut it.

Dan

Dan, if I understand, either you, or your buddy, ran out of air during a dive. The person with the Air-2 (the smart one who didn't run out of air) donated his primary to his buddy, at which time the BC inflator got stuck (presumably as the Air2 was used as the back-up reg). Talk about bad luck, you've got a simultaneous OOA and stuck inflator.

But if you grabbed your Air2, and started breathing off of it, I don't see how the inflator would get stuck unless you at least pushed it (and then, that would be extremely rare). The inflator is independant of the regulator, so there would no domino affect from reg to inflator.

I'm not trying to start anything, just trying to get more specific facts about personal experience.

detroit, as a matter of FACT, I did buy my wife an Air2 today. And yes, I am concerned about her safety. Great response though. Real class.

Stay REAL close to her.

You knew damn well before you posted that I would not put one of those on my rig based on my posts, so don't tell me that it wasn't a troll.

Its in that kind of posting that the moderators get their hairs all raised over.

If you got a legitimate gripe about a piece of equipment, than share with us the engineering weaknesses about it.

If your buddy ran out of air and you had to donate, a stuck inflator could be a problem. Unless you want to go to the surface rather quickly, you would need to disconnect the power inflator. Even if you can dump quick enough (doubtful), you add task loading to a bad situation. Your only way out now is buddy breathing. This would be real bad if you were foolish enough to use one in areas that would require a single file exit.

There should be no reason to ever put yourself in the situation of a stuck inflator and OOA using an AIRII no matter how remote the possibility is. I have never experienced a stuck inflator, but a friend has. It happened on rental gear as he jumped in and immediately came to the surface.

detroit, at this point, I can only assume you're elevan or twelve years old. While you and aqua have fun with your little smilies, I would sincerely appreciate informed opinions from anyone that I have purchased my wife a hazardous piece of equipment.

All I asked for was the basis of such strong opinions, and I get called a "troll." I guess that tells everyone how baseless detroit's opinions are.

I'm 10.

and 1/2.
