I had a student who was not big, who started out with hp100s with another instructor. He commented on how he felt out of control. I started him out with Al80 because of this. He was much happier. Unless you have a gas consumption issue, you may want to Think about using a set of Al63s.

Once again, SB posters do not seem to understand the concept of making do with the tanks you already have. I have HP80s already doubled up. That is what I will be using. Period. End of story.

At the risk of irritating you further.

If that student had taken that mindset, he would have given up tech diving altogether. Instead, he is progressing.

Based on my size, If I tried to use a hp120 or 133 twinset I probably wouldn’t be tech diving either.

You put a post on sb asking for input.

Good luck with the hp80s.

I have been diving the HP80s single tank for 18 months and I also did them SM. They suit my size snd have worked very well for me.

Irritated isn’t even the word I’d use.

yes @Lorenzoid ...it really is the instructor not the agency ....im all about interviewing your instructor , just as much as the instructor should interview the student

I’m a stubborn b*tch.

She seems to like you so far... Good luck!

I'm 6'3", 230+ pounds. I have dived with aluminum 80s and 100s, steel 72s, 80s, 95s, 100s, 119s, 120s, 130s, double steel 80s, double 95s, and double 120s. I enjoyed every dive with them. Each configuration allowed me to make the most out of a dive. I wouldn't take doubles up and down the goat trails of Palos Verdes so the smaller single tanks served me well. I couldn't have seen some of the deeper reefs and wrecks of Southern California without double 120s. They're just tools. There is no such thing as one tool for every job. Double steel 80s might seem great now but there may be a time when you want more gas or lighter tanks. Furthering your diving career requires an open mind.
