Much difference between an AL 40 deco bottle & a AL80 stage?

I find a 40 disappears, but I remain aware of an 80, and I can definitely tell that I swim slower and with more effort. I was surprised, though, that balancing one (or even one AND a 40) was trivial and required no thought at all.

Beginning with the end in mind is awesome isn't it :)

Tammy, I notice the mass of the 80 swinging around a bit, esp. if the clips are a big long and/or big. Nitrox is obviously much heavier than 18/45+ trimix type stuff. Otherwise the basically dive the same to me.

I started with an AL80, and on surface it can be a hassle. Underwater, not much really. Tried two 80's recently, also did not notice much difference underwater. On surface I didn't really bother with clipping them on (didn't even want to think about it :)), took them to the shore prior to the dive.

Little effect to the trim, but I will check how two of them impact my SAC during several dives...

BTW, they were all Luxfers.

I do have large clips, as the quarry that I do most of my diving in is very cold at depth (dry gloves). I need the large clips to be able to work them in the gloves. I will be diving it with air or nitrox to start. I'm still a ways off from doing trimix.

I think it's like anything else in scuba. In the beginning, you notice a difference, but after a little while it's really no big deal. Have fun!

I do on most of mine too. And some of the tails are a little long. These tend to "swing" fore and aft a little bit like a pendulum. Its noticable at first but really doesn't do much and you get used to it. Tightening up the tail length can minimize the swing a little bit - but at the expense of space to fit dry glove rings in-between you and the stage and SPG access as well.

I've taken up the tail, as much as can be done at this point. I left a little extra on the end, so I can take it up a bit more once the rope stretches after a use or two. Getting to the SPG is no problem, being I clip it off at my chest.

So how has it been going?

Its not. Because of my work schedule & when I can get to the quarry, I'm out of the water until New Year's Eve. I may take it then for the midnight dive or, if the LDS has a pool session soon. I'll let you know when I do get a chance to get it wet.

The only thing i notice that hasn't been mentioned yet is that i feel the 80 against my leg because I sidemount my bottles and i am vertically challenged. Then as every one said there is some increased drag. Go to 2 80's and i feel like a slug moving thru the water at times.
BTW congrats on your full cave. I know you worked hard for it.
