Missed deco stop, lock out?

If you miss a deco stop and surface, will your dive computer lock you out?

Sherwood Profile, Insight, Amphos, & Wisdom 1-3 will go into Violation Gauge Mode.
No computer algorithm calculating of Nitrogen Load; it will only act as a depth & timing gauge for 24hrs.

Are you sure in fact that S/W doesn't [eventually] lock out? I am aware that both S/W and Cochran will recalculate on the fly a solution if you miss a stop (or two or three....), always providing a solution, but I am uncertain if S/W will "lock out" if you actually blow it all off and surface (permanently).

If you miss a stop you've tissue compartment (or a few) that's over the M-value. It/they will eventually off-gas, provided you don't go diving again, and all will be well. As far as the math is concerned, that is: whether the actual diver is being airlifted to the chamber at that point is outside of the computer's programming. That, however, does not mean that a given implementation of some unspecified model does not have an actual math/programming reason for needing a reset after its M-values go over some threshold.

I dislike the lockout feature for two reasons.

1) Not because I think you should be able to dive after blown deco but because sometimes its another simple error that caused it. My backup computer, Cressi Giotto, does not allow a diver to make adjustments while diving (the SW does allow this). So if I jump in and have the gas set wrong, say air when I am diving nitrox, I can’t correct this without ending the dive. If I decide to continue the dive I risk losing the use of my backup computer for 48 hours.

2). Its an all or nothing feature. One minute missed deco results in a blanket 48 hour lockout. No diver input.

No. Shearwater Perdix AI.

Yes, for 24 hours, also in case of uncontrolled ascent.
Computer: Mares Puck Wrist.
Tested mine. Unless set in “instructor mode” will lock out 24 hours. I have to turn on instructor mode to practice the deco function while diving on nitrox. The manual is worthless in their illustration and explanation.

To be honest, I would rather not be in a position to actually find out....... (though I need to re-read my manuals)
It won’t lock out.

I responding to my post specifically...

No. Shearwater petrel. This feature is part of the sales shpeal. I'm pretty sure that goes for every computer ever made by Shearwater.

I also have a scubapro galileo that I think will lock you out, although I've never missed a deco stop with any computer so I can't say for sure.

In the "Features" list, the Petrel manual specifically says

So it will allow you to be just as foolish as you want.
Their "warning" page and the disclaimers are also entertaining.

:deadhorse:

yes, SW has confirmed no matter how stupid you can get, including surfacing with a [major] deco obligation, it will merrily keep on keeping on and even let you dive some more....

Shearwater Perdix and Petrel 2. I often leave the Petrel 2 in my pocket and never take it out leaving it set on the back gas. I'll surface using the Perdix and see my Petrel 2 is telling me I missed a deco stop. It doesn't lock.
