I don't disagree that there was strong reaction, but I think it was due to the tone of the OP. And there were several posts speaking to the inappropriateness of the older guy who prompted the the initial post.
Regardless of whether the OP was reserving the deck chair inappropriately or not, the older guy was wrong for the word choice and his actions/tone (as described) - period. We can acknowledge that, but he is not here for us to discuss that with him. OTOH, the OP is on Scubaboard, so that conversation has the potential to be more productive.

I didn't want to attack her or condone him; my wish was to establish an understanding of what happened, and perhaps offer her some insight into why it happened. Not unlike if you travel and run afoul of some social norm or controversial issue you didn't know about; it's good to find out what it was.
What she does with that going forward is up to her.

This thread doesn't seem to want to die so I'll throw my 2 cents in. For reference I'm in my 30s and my fiancée is in her (late) 20s.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to do something with people your own age. After the OPs first post what followed for pages and pages until at least her reply was mostly older people saying how lucky younger people should feel to be graced with their presence and a few (good) suggestions on where to find younger divers on LOBs. I’m shocked by how many people were offended by OP asking for advice on LOB demographics (because isn’t that what she’s really asking for?). I’m sure everyone on here is pleasant and wonderful to be around on vacation but that doesn’t mean we all want to be around each other on said vacation. When my fiancée and I are on dive vacations and find people our own age it’s almost like seeing a unicorn in the wild and we jump on the opportunity to socialize with them. In no way does that detract from a relationship we would build with others we meet while there. In fact with scuba diving I’d say our demographic gets plenty of experience with the older generations so the opportunity to do something different (younger crowd) may be the main reason it’s so enticing. Wrongly some millennials look at boomers as egocentric individuals who typified the ‘me generation’. Stereotypes are usually wrong but this thread hasn’t done anything to change that stereotype. There is nothing wrong with wanting to associate with people of your own age – in life, in vacation, etc.
On the flip and thankfully happier side of things I’ve used some of the advice from this thread and booked a LOB in the Red Sea. Fingers crossed it’s a good mix of people!

I don't understand why the person called the OP a cockroach? I have called and been called MANY MANY things in my life and I have to say that is a new one. I can't even think of what kind of behavior would make me think of that comparison.

You make some good points. Perhaps there was a more judicious way to title the thread than 'Liveaboard with fewer old people.' That was pretty much going to rub some folks the wrong way. Hoping to connect with more people roughly 'where you are in life' isn't bad.
