Lionfish off Hazard Ave, RI (8/12/06)

I found two Lion fish and about 15 Butterfly fish at Beach 8th street in Queens NY today...this is CRAZY!...links

You might be interested to know that when I was talking to Jon Hare, the guy at NOAA I posted about above, he was telling me that they have gotten a lot of sightings along the whole south coast of Long Island this year. They think it may be related to a warm core ring that pumped a lot of Gulf Stream water onto the shelf in that area.
