I tend to stick to non-critical items with LP and haven't had a problem.

I did once try and order a BC from there as no one locally had the one I was interested in at the time. Turns out they didn't have it either although it was listed as in stock, and it took them a little while to figure this out.

Hello there. I know that there have been MANY complaints about Leisure Pro. I recently went to their store in Manhattan and to be honest nothing i saw in there was fake. I highly doubt they intended to rip anyone off.

just my little tid bit.

When you say you saw nothing fake at the store, what did you mean exactly? You saw an actual BC, an actual dive mask and a real reg? Is that you you mean? What was the store and staff like? Did you get the impression that the staff were divers and knew about diving?

BigboyDan:
How long have you worked at LP? :)

The same issues get rehashed over and over.

The Attorney General on the State of New York has not, to my knowledge, investigated LP for unethical or illegal practices.

Before one criticizes, one ought to make purchases. I have made several, both critical and non-critical, and have found no problems.

BINGO!

Have only bought a few non-critical items from LP. Overall satisfied. However; one item purchased was listed as 'in-stock' but actually wound up being a backorder.

After 1 day, just got email from LP - backorder shipped --- they did fine...

I am about to buy 2 full sets of gear.

Went to the Leisurepro shop in NYC, liked their selection but their service was OK and I didn't really trust their advice - not too sure they go diving very often!

Called scubatoys, spoke with Joe, he gave me great advice, pointed me to the right gear given my budget and experience, AND he beat LP's prices by a wide, wide margin!!

I have used both Scubatoys and LP. Without a doubt, Larry at Scubatoys is more knowledgable. I bought a lot of gear at LP before i knew of scubatoys. Here is the reason.

I wanted to see many choices, and I was not happy with the selection at my LDS. I have regular business trips to NYC, so I took a morning off and went to LP. Since it was a weekday AM, they were not crowded. I could try on as many wetsuits and BCs as i wanted - no feeling of being rushed. Also no attempt to upsell or downsell. The shipping cost home was lower than the NY sales tax, so it was a good deal.

One other story. Earlier, I bought a dive computer. After receiving it, and reading the manual, I realized i made a mistake and wanted a different one. I called customer service. LP agreed to take the compuer back and waive the restocking fee (even though it was "open") since i was buying a replacement.

So, bottom line, I have been very happy with LP. HOWEVER, I have been very impressed with how Larry follows these boards and helps us here. Therefore, my next purchase will be from Scubatoys, unless it is something that I need to "see" or "try on."

I think I'm really out of the loop here! What do you mean by "fake"? What do you and others order from Leisure Pro or any other mail order place? I wouldn't think of purchasing my regulator or BC from anyone via the mail. I religiously hand carry my life support stuff whenever I go diving. I know -- the gear had to be mailed or otherwise delivered to my LDS. I assume it gets checked before it is sold. Now, maybe that's a dangerous assumption!

How would the gear be checked? From what I've seen, gear comes in. It gets inventoried and checked against the invoice. It gets put on the shelf. New gear does not go to the service room to get checked. The only time I've seen it come out of the box is when it gets sold. And this is just to hook up the hoses to the 1st stage.
