Hi all,

Took a quick dive in my pool in my gear to try out my new computer and evidently forgot to put the dust cap back on after disconnecting it from the tank. I hung it up to dry in my garage for 4 hours and just now went to put it away when I discovered the dust cap was off.

What should I do? Anything?

I leave my DIN dust cap off all the time while everything is drying out *shrugs* You are not going to hurt anything.

If the inlet port never got submerged I wouldn't give it a second thought. There's no way that the any significant dust would through the filter that fast. The inlet filter would also screen any ant, spider or other bug looking for a cozy home.

I think originally the caps were meant to be water tight suitable for cleaning. Some still are but have been retitled dust caps to lower the expectation.

If it happens to be a DIN connection with one of those rubber stoppers you may have capped it. The HP hose can be slow to bleed down and can eject the cap after you set it.

Thanks all you have made me feel a lot better! I'm off to the Chanel Islands for a 3-night liveaboard tomorrow! My first diving liveabord!

I just wanted to assure you that there is no problem. As someone has already said, those "dustcaps" are really for water tightness when you rinse off your reg set. By the way, some knowledgeable people will tell you not to immerse your regulator set in water, except under pressure/hooked up to a tank. Anyways, you are just fine.

Have a great liveaboard trip!!! And remember - if you ever feel uncomfortable with a dive, don't feel shy about expressing it to the divemaster/instructor. Never do a dive that you don't feel you have the experience/expertise to do. You are responsible for your own safety.
