Question #1
I have a Sea Quest Pro QD vest and just got a SS1 alternet air source. Its great, but I cant really look around when its in use. Will this be a safety risk. Should I get the lesser quality Aqua Lung Alternet Air. I don't want to go back to my Scuba Pro R190 octo.

Question #2
Keep the R190 or sell it???

Is the SS1 the problem or the stiff plastic inflator hose? Maybe switch to a rubber corrugated line and perhaps a longer one at that.

BTW, the R190 would probably be worth more to you (or likely someone else on the boat) in your save a dive kit than whatever small resale you could get.

I thought of that, but do they make them for Sea Quest BC's?

Not the hose from the power inflator to the 1st stage that is fine. Its the hose from the power inflator to the BC, its too short and stiff. I called the LDS, the tech said the BC to power inflator can not be replaced.

It can be easily replaced, especially if you have a 1" ID hose. Zeagle carries them as long as 22" w/ a pull dump cable. When you remove the old hose, you will see how simply the cable clips in at either end. If I remember correctly, SeaQuest's hose allows you to pull/dump from the middle as well as the end (useful when the SS1 is in your mouth). Switching to the more flexible hose will cost you that ability, but the Pro QD should have a right shoulder dump to see you through a safe ascent.:D

I just called the shop and mentioned it. Your info was totally on the mark. But isnt the SSI venting more fine compared to the shoulder dumps.

The SQ Pro QD vest uses a different size corrugated hose 7/8", a generic 1" hose will not work.

If you are using the SS1 (airsharing, 2nd stage failure, whatever) you cant really elevate it to dump air.

7/8" huh??? Hmm, I think I remember seeing in the aqualung catalog that they also sell traditional corrugated hoses in addition to what comes on their bc's. I would prefer a solid rubber material (which I don't think they use) but it would still be a huge improvement.
