Just wondering if sidemount rig is a DIR system. I am in a phase of transitioning as I love to dive and well see that the gear I bought while does work is definitly not the best configuration and does not flow when certain situations arise. Anyhow, just wondered if as I asked sidemount is a DIR set up.

Thanks

I think I found the answer, I found the GUE gear requirements for various courses and it all specs. backinflate bc and dual tank with manifold. Unless I am missing something that would answer my question I believe.

I'd say no, mainly due to the independent tanks and not always being able to donate the reg you're breathing. OTOH, you can set up your sidemount gear to be close to Hogarthian, with a long hose on the right to donate and the left hand reg on a bungeed necklace. (He says, carefully avoiding any mention of the UTD manifold system...)

Not by GUE.

But it is with UTD I believe.

If a you are thinking of taking a course with GUE, it is highly advised you consult with the instructor prior to purchasing/setting up gear if needed to.

Thanks for the answers I have definilty learned about buying gear lol. I have been reading the gear configurations and looking at why they are set up the way they are at least logically..

Thanks

I would say that, at this point in time, the term DIR is more or less meaningless.

GUE has not come up with a sidemount configuration that is considered consistent with their diving system (and I kind of doubt that they will).

UTD has a sidemount system that they promote.

Decide with which instructor or agency you want to train, and then talk to that instructor about what equipment is suitable.

Thanks Sandy, that is what I figured I would need to do, that is the hardest part. I see some definit upsides to diving sidemount (but this is just what I can see not first hand knowlege) for myself as well my wife is looking at it. I see much that I like about DIR training, but I suppose the training is dependent on the trainer as well as the commitment of the student in any methodology

Thanks again

Quoted AG, UTD is not making side mount DIR, UTD is making side mount DIR compatible. If AG didn't change his stands, but GUE and UTD don't think side mount is DIR
